what psu for a8n-sli deluxe is everyone using?

The PC Power and Cooling 510 SLI appears to be one of the very few PSU's available so far with dual pcie power leads.. Just wish I knew how loud it was. My last PCP&C PSU had a very loud fan, which turned me off bigtime.

Fortron Blue Storm will power anything you want to throw at it. Alot of people at OCP use it on their SLI rigs saying the enermax and tagans wouldn't put out enough.

Dual 12v rails at 15 amps each minumum (Not max like alot of PSU suppliers go by). ATX 2.0 compliant (SLI ready). For 89$.

I'm using the Antec 550 true control. Rock solid w/ 30a on the 12v and adjustable rails
It's a 20pin which works fine on this mobo. A 24pin is likely more futureproof

Hey Guys,

First post here and first-time builder. I've gotten a lot of great info from you guys just browsing the different forums. One thing though, I haven't received my A8N-SLI board yet, ordered from Chumbo with an ETA of 1/6, but do you need two PCI connectors from the PSU or just one to connect to the EZ PLUG feature?

I'm thinking about picking up the NEOPower for dual BFG 6800 GTs' and I don't want to over-spend and get the PC&C 510 SLI for 240.

if you're looking for a great sub-$100 PSU, i just got the Vantec Stealth VAN-520A PSU from newegg. It's $92 for a 520W 24-pin PSU with everything and the kitchen sink. It looks sharp, performs well, is quiet, has great cooling potential with the 3 fan design, and all sorts of connectors. I highly recommend it, but i've also heard great things about the other PSUs mentioned, so it's an issue of what brand you prefer and what your price range is. I personally think that the newegg price on the vantec is an absolute steal, considering it's $50 cheaper than most of the other ones mentioned, and is also about $60 below the vantec price from other vendors.

Whatever you do, you should probably get a 24-pin PSU. Have you noticed that PCIe boards from Intel and AMD are all starting to use 24-pin connectors? It's to add stability to the boards with the increased power draw of PCIe (much higher than an AGP/PCI combo). If you're gonna be investing in a 500+ Watt PSU, make sure it's well equipped for the future. Also, most SLI boards say that the only way you can use a 20-pin PSU is if you use something akin to EZ-Plug to add stability, and even then Asus recommends against anything higher than a 6600GT SLI setup. If you're looking into a dual 6800 setup, you NEED something better than a 20-pin PSU. Oh, and as for PCIe connectors, 6600GTs don't need them, but 6800 series cards do, so you'll need some adaptors for most PSUs. I don't know about the other PSUs mentioned, but i know the vantec has tons and tons of molex connectors, i had plenty left over after all my case fans and EZ-Plugs and what not, so if you spend a few bucks on some PCIe power adaptors, you should have adequate molex plugs to put them into.

CRAP! looks like i need to pull in a favor with newegg tomorrow and get that neopower :| this sucks my fx-55 was due by fedex tomorrow now i have to wait longer!

Just building mine with a Neopower 480. Contacted Antec to get the extra power connector but my video cards came with adapters anyway.

I am using an OCZ ModStream 450 watt PSU, and it works great with my A8N-SLI. I highly recommend it.

Antec Smartpower 350 watt PSU that came with my Antec BQE case. (I'm running a single 6600GT only, not SLI)

The PSU isn't 24 pin, but I simply left the 4 extra pins open and had zero problems. No converter necessary.

The PCI-E 6 pin plug is for the graphics card itself, in SLI you would need two, or one and use an adapter that runs two 4 pin molex into on 6 pin PCI-E.

The ASUS EZ-PLUG is a 4 pin molex plug.

For best results when using 2 video cards and overclocking, go with a 24 pin PSU.

They have a feature called ECASO which keeps the case fans running for 2 mins after shutdown. I like the idea behind this ECASO, because I want to use a Beantech BT85 acrylic case.
But if it will not perform then what good is this ECASO.
So please all advice is welcome, will this be good enough for 6600GT SLI

I wanted to refresh this topic as I've concluded my search for the premiere SLI PSU. The only negative that I can see with this PSU is that it is not modular. Keep in mind, the PC&P 510-SLI is an awesome PSU, but is noisy (getting reported estimates of ~40dba or louder). I don't have one, but I do have a slightly older PC&P PSU which also bears a single 80cm fan and its extremely loud. The PC&P 510-SLI doesn't even have thermal fan speed variation, which is completely unacceptable for a PSU at this pricing. Anyway, I believe this to be the best SLI PSU atm:
Thermaltake Silent PurePower 680W. Here's why:
- Active PFC
- 3 12v rails (total of 38A 12v, and I like the idea of separate 12v rails)
- 2 slow rotation thermal controlled fans (17dba according to thermaltake)
- 2 pcie leads (SLI)
- color coded cable sleeving (all cables sleeved)
- price is fair, $169 at newegg atm.

Things I wish it had, if this were buckZor's universe and I could miracle the perfect PSU:
- Single 120cm thermal controlled fan (on the base, obviously)
- modular with variable length leads

It may not be the best SLI PSU down the road; Antec has announced a v2.0 of the TruePower line and I expect OCZ to very soon pull their heads out and offer an SLI PSU.. but if I were to order today, and I can't because the SLI mainboard / 6800GT situation is still a friggen mess, I would order this PSU. Be very interested in any owners of this PSU throwing in their comments.
