As for D²OL, I've been watching the forum and it seems like TRI have just about killed this project. Pity, it used to be quite enjoyable :(

Yes I agree re: D2OL, I tried it out for a couple of weeks. Not bad!

Has Find a Drug replaced UD?

SETI 1 is still going, could be over in several months. But they've been saying that for nearly a year now. :)

SETI 2 (BOINC) is up and running.

And there are quite a few DC projects to choose from. :)

Check the locked topic at the top of the DC forum, or

TeAm Site

Good to see ya around.

5 BOINC-projects, http://boinc.berkeley.edu

SETI@home, started 22. June 2004, there's still some server-configuration and shuffling around servers and last-minute-bug-hunting to fix before "classic" can be killed off.
For the moment the wu is similar to the one used in "classic", but later this year there should be multiple wu-types, not sure how many.
Under BOINC, each wu is only sent to 4 different users, except if error/past deadline or fails validation. For this reason, 70k BOINC-users crunches as many wu/day as "classics" 450k still active users manages, but "classic" still has more results/day...

Climateprediction.net, nearly all users have now switched from the old "classic" version, but it's still possible to use the old. Faster crunching on Intel-cpu's, less upload-problems, multi-cpu, linux & mac-clients, is some of the reasons most users have stopped using the old client. Also, the sulphur-cycle-model and coupled model should be released in the coming months...
Just like their classic client, crediting happens after each "trickle", not when wu finished. Each trickle is 10802 timesteps, there are 24 trickles/phase and the current model have 3 phases. A top-end computer uses around 2 s/TS, meaning 18 days, while more normal uses 1-2 months...
The sulphur-cycle-model have 5 phases, and each trickle is slower so expect 2+ months...

Einstein@home, uses data from LIGO to search for pulsars.

Predictor@home, slightly similar to Folding@home.

LHC@home, improve the design of the LHC currently being built at CERN. Note, this project is currently closed for new users, but should open up again "soon".

Some more BOINC-projects is currently in closed development or alpha-testing and is expected to be available in the coming months. The 3 announced are:

Astropulse, run by SETI@home, will use the same tapes but split in larger wu and looks for other info than seti@home. Unsure release-time, and not sure if will run as separate project or under SETI@home...

The Lattice Project, life science research, has now 13 different applications, and according to the web-page they're currently doing server-upgrades in preparations for public launch...

Planetquest, help search for new planets...

Some more is according to rumours also in development, but unsure on which and how many at this date...

UD and FaD are/were completly independent from each other. FaD is a really nice project but as others have said, D2OL has some major problems these days.

If you want to see "the world of DC", you might also consider joining TA's rally team, TAS (TeAm Sentinel). We switch projects every month and thus really come around the DC world.

Check it out here: http://tas.reddeyexpress.com/forums/

I like the boinc (new DC SW from Berkeley). It allows you to work on more than one project with only one program. I'd link you, but you can google it just as easily as I can. I'm running mainly Einstein@Home right now-it just went live last week, so I saw it as a chance to get in on the ground floor and be one of the top dogs instead of starting out 100,000 WU behind.

I have to include that because I wrote the equivalent of SetiQ, "SBQueue". :D

There's also a small RieselSieve team if you really like math.

In SETI classic, we've had the gauntlet thrown down at us. It's too late to join for yourself, but there's TaBoo, the TA Booster club for SETI (were you still around when it was created?) See my last post in the gauntlet thread.

As Christian mentioned above, the current "tour group" for various projects is TA Sentinel. (Remember TA Covert Ops or TA Special Ops? Same thing, only a little less militant. ;)) They're currently on FaD. (Mike, maybe you should change that on the web site?)

FaD also lets you do multiple (biology) projects with one client. D2OL did too, but FaD lets you choose what to work on!

But we're still fairly relaxed about project choices. Take your pick! :)

If that's directed towards me, I just prefer encryption based DC projects. I'm currently participate in Seventeen or Bust. ;)
