what program to wipe hd before donating computer?

I have a celeron 500 mhz desktop and 17" crt that's just collecting dust. I'm thinking about donating it. What program is most effective and wiping the hard disk and works quickly? Where should I donate it? Is there a good place to sell it? I'd prob wouldn't mind getting liek $20 for it.
 
Try DBAN to blank the disk. It doesn't work "quickly" but expecting it to be quick and also do a thorough job is paradoxical. Just leave it DBAN'ing overnight using one of the higher-security options and there you go 🙂
 
it took me 1 hour to wipe everything from the 15 gb hd. I did it twice by using the auto feature. Does this mean that it's pretty much unrecoverable before I take it to goodwill for donation?
 
your in pretty decent shape. unless someone has FBI tyle forensic tools chances are they arent going to be able to recover any vital data
