I would recommend BSPlayer

It's about 69 times better than that piece of sh*t that's called "The Playa". Looks better too.

WMP 6.4?!? Haven't really thought about that one. Does it still do the job with all other sorts of digital content out there?

WMP does the job as long as you have the correct codec. But I always like something from the 3rd party. And I recommend MicroDVD. It is free as well.

<< whats the best codec for Windows media Player? >>

I use Divx 4.01 from here all the time. The newer version doesn't work for me.

Only reason I could find for using the Playa was to correct the aspect ratio that a lot of people screw up. Other than that I use Sasami2k for all my video playback. Sasami only lacks Spdif output from what I know... and that most people aren't using yet anyway.

For codecs, I recommend installing the 3.11, then the latest version of 4 (which is entirely different). When installing 4 choose not to have the new one playback the 3.11 or "older" codec videos.

I generally use sasami2k, although powerdivx nextgen is a good program. Try them out, they have worked well for me, and have played everything that I have thrown at them.
