Anybody have a link for HD Tach for Win2k? I installed the program I have and got a prompt that I'd have to register it to use the read test.

Edit: Never mind. I just followed the link above and saw that it said the same thing -- so, I guess my question was answered, i.e., no demo version for Win2k.

Ok, so I get 35000.00kps average. Now what does that mean? Very slow?

I have an IBM 60GXP 40GB drive. My average is aprox 39.5MB/s. so no your's is not shabby at all. my first test (when i noticed the prob) I was getting 6.3MB/s. You can only imagin my horror. But I got it all worked out with the a bios flash and the new 4.29a 4in1 drivers.

Mine is a 75GXP 45GB HD. So I guess the slower result kinda makes sense.

1.2GHz AMD Athlon
75GXP 45GB HDD

Random Access Time: 9.3ms
Read Speed: 38923.0kps max, 27431.0kps min, 35773.6kps average
CPU utilization: 6.9%

So this is the fastest my drive will go eh?

the scores are almost right on the money. the 75GXP has a substained transfer rate of 37MB/s while the 60GXP is rated at 40MB/s so were right there at the mark. Overhead is holding us back. Thingings like Anti-V's ICQ/AIM..etc

Cool, that's good news for me. I was just wondering, since I have a ASUS A7V133, and it has two IDE connectors... one pair labeled "Primary/Secondary ATA100" and other labeled "Primary/Secondary IDE" Just wondering if there is a difference between the two.

On the A7V, the one pair is a promise ATA100 controller while the other is your run of the mill ATA66/33.

Yeah that score is pretty decent Parn, considering I have the same drive as you and I only get about 31 MB/s average. Although mine is crammed full, and I only have about 4 MB free space.

So with my 75GXP drive, I should hook it up to the "Primary ATA100" connector?

If you want to know if its running in ATA100 then check the burst graph, you should be over 66mb/s and more likely off the scale at 80mb/s.

Cams - thanks for the tip re: Win2k.

I just ran it on Win98se (have a dual-boot) and my burst speed was 52,198, and the read speed was 39,393. I have a DiamondMax Plus hd and, yes, DMA is enabled. I was feeling okay until I saw your burst speed. :(

Where is the Burst Graph?

The horizontal bar that says "Read Burst Speed"? The highest number on that is 36, but the bar is going beyond it.

Ok, so I connect my 75GXP to the Promise ATA100, and my system boots up right into a series of BSOD. Why is this?

Also, if ATA100 is backwards compatible, whey do they have two controllers?
