What program can increase volume on a system level?

Windows volume is already maxed out, but I can't hear the sounds on movies/Hulu/etc unless the room is silent and my head is within 6-8" of the speakers. Youtube videos, on the other hand, are loud enough for me to hear at a comfortable sitting distance. So I know that the speakers are capable of outputting sound at a good intensity.

I want something that will allow me to "turn up" the volume. Does something exist for this? I played around with FFDshow settings, but the "volume" setting doesn't seem to have an effect.

Ideas?

There must be some method to turn up volume. My desktop has windows volume @ 20%, media player @ 50%, and speaker volume @ 30% for normal playback. My laptop shouldn't have windows @ 100% and media player @ 100%, and *still* be damn near inaudible for half of the same media.

I also recall some drivers requiring me to change my desktop's settings significantly, so I know it's possible for a driver-level amplification.

Bump. I tried downloading the latest realtek drivers; every volume setting I have is maxed out and I can't hear some websites, while others are too loud. Honestly, I'd rather amplify everything on the fly 300%, and then turn my volume down whenever I need to.

Uh, you're going to be limited by whatever amp is part of the sound system - which on a laptop is generally going to suck. There is no way to "amplify" via software other than fake gain, which isn't going to help out on the final output stage.
