what program can i use to put together a magazine?

basically just put some pics on pages, and some text. this will be a black and white magazine stapled together. can anyone recommend a program?

We used Pagemaker 6.0 at school for the yearbook. It takes a bite out of your wallet though. Maybe MS Publisher will work for you.
