what program can i use to cut down the size of mp3, or turn down the quality to make it smaller

any free or downloadble programs i can use.
im trying to help a friend dump some mp3's in their sandisk 1gb mp3 player, and we'd like to fit more songs, and some of the songs were recorded at like 256kbps i think and i want to tone it down to like 64 or 92 or osmething. please help

128...64-96 is too low for mp3, it starts to really fail at that bitrate. only mono audio books at 64-96

yeah use windows media player(wma) that allows 64 bit instead of 128 like in mp3

google for dbpoweramp. It's a nice app just for converting btw audio filetypes and embeds nicely in the context menu.
