I know that Windows 8 uses the option of Windows 7 backup program, but was wondering what other programs work good with Windows 8. I had been using Acronis 2010 (which I think is their best version) but it is not compatible with Windows 8.
So, what are you using ?

I just used the built in win 7 backup tool to create an image. Works fine.

Though I did think it was odd they didn't rename it win 8 backup tool, especially when it uses a completely new recovery disk.

Why use something else that's already there? An image is an image unless you really need fancy features that, imo are gimmicks to get you to want it more than anything. Might as well get System Mechanic while you're at it.
But in answer, i just use the W7 backup tool. It creates and image, it restores an image...perfectly what i need.

Reason being that with Windows image program, you can only restore the entire image whereas when I used Acronis, you can click on the image and restore selected files without having to restore the entire image.

Can Win 8's backup tool split the backup across multiple BD-Rs? Does it ask you to insert a new BD-R after each one is filled up as the backup is completing?

I like Macrium because among other options, it lets you encrypt your backup as well as compress it and it is probably the fastest one I've used so far.

I have both Acronis TI 2010 and 2013 I do Not see any thing better with 2010 over 2013.

2013 does work well with Win8.

Yes it can. But using BD's or DVD's is so slow, it's worth picking up an external HD.

I guess you never actually used it then. I have no troubles restoring files from my image;)
Once you make an image, you'll see an icon. Click it and select "restore files" from there you have some options, like here.

I thought TI 2010 could not handle offset alignment for a SSD. I gave up after TI 2012 with all the un-necessary bloat and moved on to Macrium Reflect after upgrading to Win 8.

I have Acronis True Image 2011 and 2013. 2013 has a serious bug in both Windows 7 and Windows 8 that after a while, when you right click any file on your desktop or in a folder, Explorer crashes. This happened on many different formats of the machine for both me and my friend in Holland so It is confirmed that Aronis True Imge 2013 is a fuxored up program.

I now just rely on Macrium Reflect. Works well and is free

I use the TI2013 Clone function. Perfect dupe of Win 8 drive. I don't ever use BACKUP/RESTORE.

+1

For years I do Not install Backup programs on Functional Hard Drives.

I only use Boot (CD or Flash drive) versions that provide almost all of the application features like Acronis TI does. Many other applications provide only a Recovery disaster CD/FD.

For Auto Back ups Server arrangement (like WHS) is the way to go.
