Some songs are a member of multiple genres, which allows me to tag them with "genre 1 / genre 2," for example "rap / hip-hop," but only search for one genre or the other and I still get the song, since it searches intelligently for any matching portion. You cannot do this with folders. My method is also arguably faster. And let's say you think of one particular song you want to hear right at that moment. Is it faster to browse through all your folders or to open ML and type like three letters of the song title? Also I don't have to put any effort into placing my music when I get it. Simply make sure it's tagged properly and throw it into the music folder.Originally posted by: IamDavid
"I don't see why anyone would browse and play their music from Explorer. You are missing out on so many functionalities by doing so, such as creating instant playlists of a particular genre, album, or artist, or having real-time search for songs. I highly recommend the use of a media library that has these features. "
Instant playlist by Genre? Just do this: Right click on whichever Genre dir. you want and select play in media player or add to playlist.. Same this with alblums.. As for the search I can't say, never had to search for a song.![]()
Still not convinced? This method does not force you to do away with your folder structure, you can still keep it intact. So feel free to at least try a media library and play around with it, assuming your music is at least tagged properly.
