What processors support unix-type operating systems?

I'm looking to build a system that I can install linux or freebsd. Do all processors support these? I'm pretty sure most intels do. Does anyone know about the AMD's?

all X86-architecture processors are equally compatible with Linux and FreeBSD...

just to let you know, AMD and INTEL and CYRIX ALL are based on the intel x86 architecture. dont be fooled by the "intel" in intel x86
