What processors do the Celeron 330 (2.2Ghz) compare to?

Your XP2500+ would mulch it.

The new Celeron D chips can be compared to the old Willamette P4's, if they had ever gotten up to the higher speeds. The Celerons would be slightly faster due to the 533mhz bus. They are not quite the dogs they used to be, but still nowhere near challenging Athlon XP's.

Would you say the same for an XP CPU? The 330D generally outperforms the XP for the same price.

Newegg
Celeron D 330 2.6 GHz retail $91
XP 2600+ Barton retail $94

The 2500+ has a faster bus than a Celeron D... 333Mhz = 166Mhz, 533 Mhz = 133Mhz. Lets go by real clock speeds eh? heh.

Looking @ the graphs, it seems that they are very similar though no?

Yeah, I meant to say 2.66Ghz instead of 2.2Ghz. My bad...

The Celeron D is much better than the old Celerons. I think they are about the same as an AXP now. They also OC like mad, with people seeing overclocks into the 3.6-4.0GHz range. Though at speed they are pretty close to the AXPs in the 2.4-2.6 range.

I wouldn't be rushing out to upgrade from an AXP 2500+ to a Celeron D, but for someone buying a new system, it's a viable option from Intel. Quite a move in the right direction from the old Celerons, which were only a viable option for someone who didn't care about performance in the slightest and liked spending money to get nothing in return.

Why even mess with a Celeron. You can get a Sempron 3100+ for $123 now and that price is dropping. And if you want to overclock and have a socket A board then get a Mobil-A-XP

what you think this is incorrect?

no sir, the Celeron is a pimple on the microprocessor world's arse.. utterly useless it is.

Did you even look at the benchmarks? There was a Duron 1.6 in the comparison, and it got creamed by the Celeron 330. The Celeron beat it handily in EVERY test.

The new Celerons are not nearly as bad as the old ones.

Many people dont bother with such minor details like benchmarks, actual performance, price and such. All they need to see is Intel or worse yet, Celeron and jump in with fan boy conclusions. No need to bother with any factual junk.

It works like this:
AMD XP 2600+ @ $94 rox
Intel Celeron D 330 2.66 @$91 sux even though it performs ~ the same level as AMD for the same price.

Either that or my sarcasm meter is completely on the fritz!

No only 256kb. The SocketA semprons have 256kb and the socket 754 also have 256kb, but they don;t need as much with the ondie Mem controller.

Its true that Celerons aren't exactly as much of a joke as they used to be as they're beginning to act more like P4s now that they aren't completely choked for cache. Tualatin Celerons performed very well because they boasted the same ammount of cache as pre Tualatin P3s.

Granted if you're building a budget system its hard to beat AMD because they've consistently produced the best performing budget part with Duron and now the Sempron almost always clearly faster than their Celeron adversary. Not overclocking then its hard to go wrong but if you are its hard to beat Athlon XP-M results.
