What Processor/MoBo for Gaming System?

The only thing thats bad about intel is the 533 FSB wont use the full 800 FSB potential of the chipset and for AMD the 2600+ isnt barton like the 2500+ one is so I am not sure if it can out compete the 2500+.

what mobo/cpu do you think i should get for maximum gaming performance?

well, im running your above option with a slightly diff board, Asus P4PE 845pe board, and can run Morrowind at 1280x1024 with full graphic options with no probs, along with running Warcraft 3 at full res also and stuff. Im not sure if im getting the best framerates, but its definately clear and crips and smooth on my end. Im using a GeForce 4 4800Ti also, but its not exactly the newest graphic card out there.

Why not go for an Abit IC7? It costs less than that Gigabyte you listed.
