What processor is better for gameing?

Which processor is better for gaming...the AMD Athlon 64 4200+ X2, the AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego, or the AMD Athlon 64 4000+ Clawhammer. My graphics card will be the eVGA GeForce 7800GT, 2GB of G.Skill RAM, and i want to be able to play battlefield 2 at full potential(full graphics)

With a 7800GT and 2 gig of ram any of those CPU's are good. Games are GPU limited at higher resoultions anyway, so the most differance you might get is 1FPS. I would personaly go for the dual core, since new drivers from both ATI and Nvidia are multithreaded, and games are starting to get patched for dual cores as well.

2.0GHz on an AMD processor is plenty fast. You have nothing to worry about ^^. Check anandtech's latest review on the intel 955 EE and go to the gaming performance benchmarks and see where the 3800+ X2 falls in line. I think you'll be plenty pleased with it's performance.

And as was mentioned above, these games are GPU limited now. Even at some of the lower resolutions...

i just dont understand...battlefield 2 says it needs at least a 2.4GHz processor, is that on intels standards...and also no offence but my question really hasnt been answered to clearly besides the first post, if you could please tell me what processor is better for gaming/overall performance..

yes, thats 2.4 by intel standards. i would say thats about a 1.4ghz Athlon 64. also, if you overclock it, you can easily get a 4800+

As others have said, games are all about the video card the CPU really doesn't matter that much. An A64 3000+ with a 7800gt will PWN a 4000+ or a x2 4800+ with a 6800gt.
If gaming is your primary objective save money on the CPU and step up the GPU.

I am using the 4000+ and it is a nice overclocker. I am rinning mine on a asus A8N-SLI @ 255x11.

In terms of gaming just now most games would run quickest on the SD 4000+. This is because most games are run on a single thread so dual core provide no benifit.

Although what were starting to see now with games is a move to multiple threads which means dual core processors receive a boost. Demonstrated on Quake 4.

If it was up to me I would go for the dual core more future proof and great performance, you mean even overclock it to achieve even more performance.
