What printer up to $400-500 to get

I'm looking at:
Epson:
C80 $150-200
Epson Stylus Photo 1280 InkJet Printer -$500

HP:
Business InkJet 2200XI Color Inkjet 2400x1200dpi 15ppm $500

I saw some new canon printers look nice. But i had my epson 740 for the last -3-5 years and worked great. I paid $79 then, those first internet deals. I print every day and it just falling apart.

Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX is probably the best photo printer you can buy for the money. It's images are the same 1280, but for much less money. You can get them online for $180-199.

Its just awesome what it does. I purchased one a few weeks ago and after my parents came over and saw the prints that me and the wife made, they made me go pick one up for them the next day!

"Paper Types: Plain Paper, OHP Transparencies, Card Stock, Envelopes (Standard tray) "

Thats the only papers the Ricoh supports. It doesn't do photos or really high quality photo type paper. From looking at his choices, he wants to print photos every once in awhile. I could be wrong though?

Thats another thing though. What exactly do you print?? B&W, some color, photos?

For photos I'd suggest the Canon S900 or S9000, the difference being the S9000 can do oversized 13x19 prints. The photoquality is unmatched, the ink is cheap(and can be found generic for cheaper then epsons even), and it's fast. Borderless 4x6 rocks.

Don't go with the Epson C80, at least for photos. There is a reason that they don't mention it as a photo print. Blacks are just ugly, frequent head clogging and inconsistent flesh tones = bad printer to me.

If you look at HP, make sure you go with a model that uses the 45 black cartridge. The cheaper printer models have almost identical specs as the higher ones, except that they use the 15 black. The 45 and 15 are the same price, but the 45 has literally double the ink capacity. The HP 990 and 995 are both great buisness class machines, both photo quality, nice flesh tones and bright colors, with an auto duplexor to boot. Also has a IR port on it (Heard the 995 has bluetooth now, not confirmed) making printing from a lappy or handheld easy.

If you're looking for dedicated photos, get the Canon S900. If you are looking for a good all around machine, get the deskjet 990. Just IMHO anyways.

Since you said $400-500, the Canon S9000.

Epson should be introducing new 7 color printers soon. The Canon s9000 is a great printer though. For the budget concious, the Epson 785EPX is a great printer

Don't even consider an HP over an Epson for photos. Epson's Micro Piezo is way superiour to HP's thermal printhead. There is no comparison.

I print:
Lots of text pages

Started to print Photos, wanted to print oversized photos, banners, brochures, flyers, etc......

The Ricoh also uses a coated paper that produces great color images. Granted, it's not really targeted to photo printing, but overall, it's an incredible printer. 🙂

MMX: Canon s900 or s9000. The s9000 is a wide carriage printer, capable of 13x19 borderless prints. It is incredibly fast since it has so many nozzles.

I was thinking of getting 2 priters.

One right now for text mailnly black, but be able to print with color when I need a flyer or small things like that.

And save some money and get an $500-1000 great color printer for photo, brochure, and etc....

I saw the epson C80 for $150 with rebate, even less online, is this a good overall printer?

C80 is a good printer, isnt a photo printer though(it will print photos, it just doesn't have the color gamut of a 6 color printer). It is different than other Epson printers in that is uses pigment based inks instead of dye based. When printed on archival matte papers, the longevity is like 100 yrs. That is a hella long time in print standards for a consumer based printer. Personally, I think you should get the Canon s900 or s9000. Since you do a lot of text, you will want speed and quality. the Canons are extremely fast at spitting out pages, and their text quality is quite good. And it is a 6 color printer, they will spit out 4x6 prints in about 30 seconds, and an 8x10 around 1 min. they are very fast printers

I'm checking the s900, it appears awesome but ink replacements are rare.

I'm looking for one that refills are cheap. My epson 740(dying - unknown disease) was very easy to get black, and color refills for cheap(generic for 3-4 bucks each.)

Does it make difference generic and original?

OK, I think I'm gonna go with: Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX

I like the features, speed, and price(could be cheaper as with everything)

OK, then I'm looking to see if ink is cheap too.

OEM inks are ok, but generally not as good as the manufacturer. Epsons are more prone to nozzle clogging using OEM than Canon is. Canon printers tend to use up certain colors more than others, like Cyan and PM. Check shopper.com or pricewatch. Buy.com should carry them, probably at a good price.

The Epson 785EPX is a great printer, it is what I use. It is an ink hog though. It used chipped carts, and they are a pain since you waste ink. You can get a chip resetter for them, and that can let you get another 5 5x7 photos out of the ink that epson would have you waste. Text quality is ok, but it is not the fastest printer on the block. For the price though, it is a great printer. Has a built-in compact flash reader for those who dont have one. It can also do continuous rolls of 4x6 photos with the paper roll holder

I got an Stylus 820 in the end. Very happy with it, highly recommend it. I purchase that over the others cause I didn't need the LCD display(while very cool) and the $50 savings helped too.

Oh well its great for what I need right now.

thank you all.
