What prebuilt systems are the best deal for the money?

Looking for a friend, who wants to buy a prebuilt rig and is looking at Alienware but I figured theres someone out there who surely can blow their exhorbant pricing out of the water.

Anyone in the market and know who offers the best deals on a gaming PC?

I know you guys are gonna hate me for posting this but Dell XPS is pretty good. Get Alienware first. Those are the only two I recomend. Also consider having a local store like CompUSA build you one just get all the parts and they might be able to put it together. In my case I have PCClub. They put mine together. Depends on where you live. If you don't know what parts to buy, post another topic on here and ask them what they recomend.

Don't care, bring on the haters, I'm posting from a hyperthreading Dell. Big AMD fan boy but Dell made me an offer I could not refuse.
Don't have the time to build anything right now. I've seen some great E-Machines bundles. Quality and reliability at E is much improved.

Any others? I didnt know if there was some "golden" company out there offering the best gaming parts at very good prices. I know dell is into Intel, and Alienware/Falcon seem a TAD overpriced for what you get sometimes.

If it has to be prebuilt, then I would probably go with Monarch and custom-spec what I want. But at that rate, I would grab my #2 Wiha and build it myself, it's addic-- errr, fun 😱 Yeah, "fun," that's what I meant. I can stop any time I feel like, btw...

If it has to be a true Happy Meal? computer that you take out of a box and there's a gi-normous color-coded "plug this into that" poster with big idiot-oriented arrows, symbols and stuff, then I would probably look at an A64 from HP/Compaq. Just peeking at HP's site, the HP Pavilion D4000e looks sort of interesting... 400W PSU, video options up to a 6800 Ultra, PCI-Express x16 slot, and you can opt for WinXP Home, Pro or MCE.

No SCSI goodness available, though 🙁 Posers. Anyway, hope that helps 🙂

I had him go with Monarch after checking out the places suggested here.

We pieced together a A64 3000+ Venice core, Geforce 6600GT PCIE, Seagate 250GB SATA, dual layer DVD burner, Antec Sonata case, 380watt PSU and a gig of RAM for about $1000 signed, sealed and delivered.

Also got Farcry on DVD, 4 months of napster and HL2 fullversion for free!

I think that rig is pretty tough to beat. Could it be done to build his own for less? Yeah, but not by much.. then count in his time.
I build my own, but he just needs something good, fast and cheap now.

My rig is VERY similar to his, 3200+ Venice, 6800GT PCIE, 2x200GB Seagate 7200.8 drives in RAID-0, dual layer Plextor burner, Antec Super Lanboy, 550watt PSU (fortron), 1gig of ram. I originally had my two 6800GTs in SLI, but I dont need that much power for my 1680x1050 display, so I threw it in a 2nd rig.

I totally approve of Monarchs custom PCs.. it was enjoyable and the price very nice..

Might even do that myself next time!
