what powersupply?

im building my first system, so far i have decided.

barton 2500+ xp proc 333mhz fsb
asus a7n8x
ati radeon 9500pro (if i can find one where i live, montreal) or 9600pro if not
1 x 512mb pc2700 ram (add another later, exact brand not decided yet)
60gig western digital 7200rpm harddrive
simple floppy and cd read only drive for now.

my concern is, how powerful a powersupply should I get? I will probably only add a few minor things later on, like adding a cdrw drive or some such.

I will be running everything at stock speed.

Allied True 450W, $40 @ newegg.com. Works great with my overclocked P4 @ 3.3ghz, Radeon 9700, 1gb ddr400 rig. Rock stable and pretty quiet.

Buy a Antec TruePower/TrueControl 550W and you will have a PSU that stands more than one generation 🙂

But probably a 300W quality PSU is just enough. Antec TruePower 330W is not so damn expensive and it's a hell of a PSU. I'd go for that (or a 380W/430W depending on the price difference), low noise level also which is a great + imo.

I'll second the Antec Truepower. Or perhaps a Fortron.

Anyway it's nice to see a value based amd system, good job, in these P4 800mhz fsb times.

Fortron or Sparkle 350W is very high quality and plenty of power. You don't need more than a 350W quality psu.

All the talk in the world is fine, but, it really needs to be calculated. This 'works' or that 'works' is quesswork 😉 There's other charts and graphs floating around, but I've lost my links, sorry....
