what plays .avi?

i only get sound, i thought an avi file is video. that's with unmodded wmp 8. so what plays avi files?

you need a Codec

go to Divx.com and DL teh Divx 5 codec. it shoudl fix that

i don't know about you all, but my knowledge of codecs and video formats has been vastly expanded due to my relentless pursuit of pr0n

avi is a broken format which encodes the audio separately from the video which is why you can get the sound but no video like that... MPEG keeps the sound and the frame together. or something.

That's funny.

I haven't needed a codec since I installed that codec pack.

You may have a screwed up file even if you have all the codec, in that case if it is .avi try DivFix (google it)

Before you start installing codecs willy nilly, download a program called GSpot. It will analyze the file and tell you what codecs you need for both video and audio.

BTW, ffdshow, dsp2dshow, and the AC3 codec are all I ever use except for WMV and RM.
