Never been before, any suggestions?

When I try ethnic foods I like to get the authentic stuff first before trying Amerified versions...

Yum noodles and meat!

Their all pretty good...but i always get the pho tai which is just pho with slices of beef. The one with meatballs is pretty good too. If you want to go all out, get the pho special which has a little bit of everything including intestine.

Depends how good the place is. Some places will have beef, chicken, or tofu. Others will have 50 different options including intestine, tendons, etc.

I would get the plain beef one for your first time.

seriously.

the combo is good. it usually has trip and flank, and meatballs. :T

What most people usually get is whats called the little tai. its basically just rare shank steak in hot soup.

Oh, the red sauce and the purple sauce is good in the soup, however some people dont like that purple sauce. :\

Dont know what more i can say, im not vietnamese. But i do eat pho a lot.

Spring rolls are also uber yummy. The while clear flour paper wraped around a shrimp and veggies. :T

Its very popular in Los Angeles.

Ahhh i think i'll go eat it for lunch now.

Hoison sauce is AWESOME (purple sauec)... I put in like half a cup of of it in my pho (yes I do love it... greatly). Add some sriracha sauce (the red sauce), and it tastes a bit spicy and salty :).

Yeah, hoisin sauce is good stuff, although the kind I usually see is more dark brown than purple...I guess it all just depends on your personal perception. It's great when they put it in the peanut sauce for spring rolls as well.

Mmm...pho...

The one with the rare slices of beef would be my favorite (also, they kind of 'cook' in the hot stuff by the time you eat'.

#1 pho sho :)

Wide rice noodle w/ rare and done beef. Add lots of chilly sauce. ZOMG! Don't drink the soup, it's liquid MSG.

I'd get this. I had it my first time, its all part of the experience. If you find something you don't like just don't eat it, but you'll for sure know what you do like for your next visit.

On another note: I love the pho names that places get. We have a Pho Kim Long near me, and a Pho King, too.

Edit: Clarification, get the combo.

I know, my Vietnamese girl friend won't let me go to them. :( I doubt I'd be able to tell a big difference but I'm sure she'd not like them much at all.
