What performance boost going from 667MHz to 800MHz memory?

I just upgraded my sytem (mobo, proc, mem). Please see signature for description. I had ordered 800MHz DDR2 but was delivered 667 MHz instead. I am wondering if its worth going back to the store to exchange the memory. The 800 MHz mem is about $5 more for 2 GB that the 667 MHz one. It's not a question of money but of hassle.

I could keep the 667 MHz memory if it is not a limiting factor in the system's performance.

Theres really no performance issue. It really just depends on if you plan on taking the memory higher for overclocking, cause that could hinder you somewhat. Obviously 800mhz is higher than 667.......

Imo, you paid for 800mhz which is at least slightly more expensive than 667mhz.... If it were me, id probably complain and want my 800mhz instead.

If you dont plan on overclocking though and youre fine with not being sent the right memory, it wont make much difference.

Actually, for an AM2 system, ddr2 at 800mhz gives a boost in performance, over ddr2 at 667mhz. It's not a night and day difference, but there is something you're loosing there and so, I'd say, go and exchange it.

Thanks error8. A slight difference is still a difference. And yes Fallengod, I checked my invoice and I paid the 800 Mhz price ($4 more :disgust: ). Going back to the store tomorrow.

Went to the store yesterday. It's done. Surprisingly, the 800 MHz RAM seems to have sped-up boot-up. Previously, I had ample time to read the 667 MHz frequency on POST, while the "DRAM Clocking 800 MHz" message is now only a quick flash. Maybe I'm dreaming...
