What percentage of US adults understand leap day?

What's it there to understand?

Every year, the calendar of 365 days round down some excess hours, that adds up to a whole day every 4th year, so we attach that on Feb. Was that so hard? Was that so cool for you to know to show off?
So if we gain a 1/4 day each year and take it all every fourth year, why isn't it dark in the middle of the day two years into the cycle?

explain how my post is racist.

Tonto = Stereotype Indian name from the Lone Ranger.

that would be ten, thus even.

Tonto is what I call Toronto because the fucking place is ran by stupid people.

He spoke stunted English because he was a stereotype of Native Americans, leaving out words and using improper pronouns. Not because he was stupid. I understand that it is slang for Toronto and means "stupid" in Spanish, but if that's why... RACIST!

the whole idea is that the amount of time it takes to revolve around the sun isn't exactly a multiple of a day/night cycle. each year, we count a full revolution around the sun as 365 days, but we actually haven't made a full revolution until 6 hours into the next day. but by then, we're already counting next revolution around the sun. by the time we count 4 revolutions, we actually require 1 more day for 4 actual revolutions to have occurred. the only way your scenario would happen is if we increased the time in a day by 6 hours / 365 days. but a day would no longer equate to a day/night cycle. .

I happen to speak Spanish...I still don't see what this has to do with a fictional character. Do you have some sort of auto racism scanner script?

There I changed the location to make it clearer. Is your racism scanner still going off?

We should just call it 364 days and add the extra days to the end of December; sometimes having longer, some times having shorter, Christmas/new-years holidays.

We should also move thanks-giving and Christmas to the same part of the year.

Each month should be 28 days long and we should add a new month to the begging of the calendar called "aww... fuck!" where in anyone that wants to can give up everything they own and get rid of all of their debt: No questions asked.

I still don't get it, can someone explain it to me?

Yes.

When the great turtle flys closest to the sun it is day time; when he flys away it is night time.

1460 rotations the turtle demands a day off and rides the elephants for a change.

Hope this helps,

I recently explained to my 7 year old son what it meant by June 21 being the longest day of the year and December 21st being the shortest.

He understood it on the first try.

I wish I could say that some of the adults I know could do that, too.

MotionMan

wow, your son is so brilliant!!!

I'm disappointed, though, I suppose, not surprised. And, reading through the rest of this thread, I have to wonder if a few people are just trying to pull our collective legs, or, well, at least I used to think the people in here were reasonably intelligent compared to the population as a whole.

intelligence =/= knowledge.

ugh...
It's doable, just really expensive.
It'd involve a lot of earth-moving: Mess with the heights of mountains.
For example, if you level out a lot of mountains and bring that mass down closer to Earth's center of gravity, that'll change the planet's angular momentum, and cause its rotation to speed up.

a cheaper route would be to give up proper day/night cycles and extend the time per day. that or keep 24 hours, throw away leap day, and let the seasons slip.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to have the earth stand still and just have the sun spin? The earth is like huge, like super walmart big and the sun is just a little dot.

Probably, the scientists want to have you believe that the earth spins around the sun.

It wasn't a serious accusation and you know it, RACIST.

And our great-grandchildren will wonder what the heck a white Christmas is.

And baseball in the snow should be fun to watch.

Wow, I didn't think this thread would get this many posts. So let's hear your results!
