Probably suprisingly low. Most people are still on dialup because of either availability or no need for faster access. (Yes there are people who don't NEED broadband.)

I was just searching around a bit and most sources say the number is somewhere between 15 and 25 percent.

a very small percent, if you mean globally. many places don't even have a high phone penetration rate

Just saw this article today

10 million cable users in US

There are more than 10m cable broadband punters in the US, according to the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA). It claims some 75m households in the US have access to cable broadband services, with around two thirds of these owning a computer.

"Surpassing 10 million high speed Internet customers is a significant milestone for the cable industry and reflects continued steady growth in consumer demand for cable broadband services," said Robert Sachs, President and CEO, NCTA.

Anyhow, cable modem services have come a long way over the last five or so. At the end of 1996 there were just 10,000 punters using cable for hi-speed Net access.

At the end of 1998 that number had increased to 250,000 before jumping to 1.6m a year later. At the end of 2000 3.7m users were accessing the Net via a cable modem. Last year that figure doubled to 7.2m.

Thank you for letting me brag about how my dad finally ditched AOL and got DSL. I'm pumped. Of course I have DSL here at school but now when I go home on breaks I don't have to suffer through dialup.

I don't know but some of the customers that call me for support are on Broad Speed or High Band.

In South Korea there are 8.5 million residentail broadband accounts, this represents over 50% of the population. Here is a good article: The Bandwidth Capital of the World.

Here is a document that compares broadband access in different countries: www.nielsen-netratings.com/pr/pr_020815.pdf.

-About 55% (166million) of people in the US have some form of internet access.
-Of those 55%, 17%(28million) have broadband.
-About 11% of the people on Earth have some form of internet access.
-US, UK, Germany and Italy account for almost 50% of the people on the internet.

It's cool having a computer accessible to you pretty much anywhere when you're in Korea. When I went there last summer, when I went to the mall, I just walked up to one of the many computers that they had there for FREE use, to check e-mails and stuff. All on them nice 17" LCD monitors and all. :p Seeing has my grandparents naturally are one of the 50% that don't have boradband and don't even a computer of course. Went to one PC bang there, only about $1.50 and hour and bunch of kids playing Diablo II: LOD on flat screen TV's.
