Personally I've decided on the Visor Deluxe. Its just like a palm 3xe, but with the springboard moduel. Which means I can upgrade if hell ever freezes over and i get some cash.

Get the palm 3xe. You can upgrade the OS on it, plus it isn't as flimsy as the handspring, i've seen a couple of them at my dad's office crack open. The springboard module doesn't bother me, because by the time really cool stuff comes out, I will probably just buy a pocket pc instead. If money is no object, get in line for the IPAQ, it kicks butt.

I've had a Visor Deluxe since last October. It was awesome because it was either a Visor Dlx for 250 with 8mb of Ram or a IIIx with 4 megs for 300. Tough choice, eh?

Visors need to drop about 50 bucks each. I'd love to see the 2MB visor down to 100 and the Deluxe to 200.

Between the VDx and IIIxe it's very tough. check out www.visorcentral.com for some biased opinions :)

If the springboards ever start coming into play anytime soon, you wouldn't want to miss out on it.

okay, first i had the IIIe. this didn't work out cause it didn't have enough memory so i went to the IIIxe. now this was cool till my work gave me a handspring deluxe. i liked it too but it was gettin kind of heavy and i wanted something a little more portable and then someone at work was selling a Palm Vx for 200 brand new. i like this the best now just because it is slim and can pretty much go anywhere with me.
The Windows Ce i think have too many problems and are very slow. go with something using Palm OS..you'll be much happier

I guess there should be someone here to speak for the WinCE... Looks like its going to have to be me. Depending on what you want to do, if you want expandability there is nothing like a CE device. They are usually faster (better processor) and also have interesting features like (pseudo) multimedia (you can actually use it as an mp3 player). As for the usability I am not the best person to talk about it because I used mine for a few months and gave it to my brother (not enough need for it, I guess...)

Regarding the Visor Deluxe and Palm Vx: I should note that the Palm V series can be a danger for people who use 440BX chipsets. some of the Palm cradles currently out there has a problem with the Asus P3B-F and other BX boards (possibly/probably not all).

This is a problem that Palm knows about, but does not put on their website. They will replace the cradles you buy, but it's just annoying to have to do it in the first place. They will possibly soon be offering an adaptor which fits between the cradle and the motherboard. This adaptor reportedly (if it ever gets out) solves the problem without getting a new cradle.

My office had to exchange four cradles so far, which is getting to be a real pain. We're standardized on the P3B-F and the Palm Vx (and the OmniSky unlimited internet full TCP/IP thingy for it) for the office here, and we're starting to wish that the AMD760 would come out soon so we can analyze it.

BTW ... my ideal Palm would be a IIIc with OmniSky support with a Springboard-like or MemoryStick-like expansion slot. I had an amazingly resilient and totally satisfying Palm III, but I accidentally threw it across my room several times and then stepped on it (all cases being accidental) and now it acts somewhat funny and has a slightly cracked screen.

As soon as I'm sure OmniSky supports the IIIc, I'm there. ;)

Palm and its retailers seem to be trying to give away the IIIc with all the weird deals floating around. Wasn't buy.com offering Razor scooters then $100 bucks in buy.com cash with their IIIc? Well, personally I use the Palm V since I only use the ToDolist, address book, date book, and the email-on-the-go function and I need the portability, not the memory.
I have a cousin with a Visor, then he got a Visor Deluxe and he is a pretty smart guy so I'd say Visor Deluxe with the memory and springboard over the IIIc with the short battery life and the pretty screen.

red: the IIIc is the color one. The visor is strictly non-color. Don't you mean Palm 3xe or visor?

I settled on a nice HP E-100! :) I just basically needed a todo, address, datebook, email, but the ebook and pretty color screen was a nice addon too! :)

If you're into game emulation, take a serious look at the Casio E-115 or E-125 PocketPC units. I'd suggest the Compaq Ipaq too but I hear their units has problems registering simultaneous button presses and could make gameplay difficult.

I have a Palm IIIe and I like it very much. If I was going to buy one now though, I'd probably look at the Visor DLX or the new Sony PDA (using the Palm OS).

Also another interesting PDA-ish (well not really) device is made by Cross pens. It looks just like a normal clipboard but it can store up to 500 pages of notes & sketchings on a built in memory chip. This can then be downloaded to you computer later.

Cheers,
Aquaman
