What PDA do you use? Do you like it?

I used to use my Palm all the time until my life fell apart several years ago. Discovered the joy of low-tech scheduling using little scraps of paper (works better than I would have thought).

But, time to rejoin the tech world. What do you use and like?

My wife lives by her Dell Axim X5. All of her appointments, meetings, and intra-day rounds are in there and synched up with Outlook client.

She also has about 50,000 pages worth of drug information and health journals on there too that she uses nonstop throughout the day.

yes...once you go VGA, you don't turn back

i bought an x51v for my gf...she's a clincal pharmacist, so she carries all her drug information around the hospital with it

Dell Axim....I used it sometime ago very fervently, but then that initial enthusiasm wore off and I am back to Outlook (contacts) paper notes/memory for meetings.

Another philosophy I developed is.... if you start relying on PDA for things like appointments/tasks, you are actually making less use of memory (already humans use 10-15% of brain capacity)...so back to basics.

How is it any different from having a flip-book and pen in your pocket? It just organizes the data differently. I need to carry both at times, or I'll just forget stuff outright.

And for those of you who are going to do the knee-jerk reaction thing, my memory was hosed as a child, long before I "powerleveled" my "herbalism" skill, thank you very much.

Besides - David Allen/GTD practitioners feel that you are wasting valuable brain capacity on these pointless functions like remembering what time your department meeting is. Instead, collect all of this junk and store it in a system that you will trust yourself to refer back to and free your mind to work on higher-level tasks.

I use my HP 6515 for GPS, Outlook email, contacts, tasks, and appointments synchronized with Outlook at home. I play Solitaire on it too when I get bored. I get my Gmail via POP3 when I'm away.

I have used the web browsing before but it has such high transfer speeds that I go over my 1MB usage pretty fast.

How long does that X50v battery last?

Well, i still have my Ipaq 1910, but i don't use it for actual PDA stuff.. just ebook reading now. Once Dell comes out with their new smartphone though, i'll pick one up.

i am an x50v fanboi, but i have to admit the stock battery is crap.

but my axim is plugged in at work, and plugged in at home, and i have an adaptor in my car, so i dont' have to worry about battery

the x51v is supposed to have better power management

Those are sweet ... love the sliding keyboard. Wish I could find an unlocked GSM one for less than $Left_Nut.

i'm running WM2003SE on the x50v...i wish i could use WM5, but the one dell has right now is still too buggy on the x50v

yeah i love it,
thought I would recommend going with CDMA just because 3G / EVDO is faster than GSM edge. I got in on the sprint employee promotion thing and have a 400 min plan with unlimited internet and 500 text messages for $30/mo

My wife and I both have a Palm Tungsten E2 PDA. She uses hers daily for accessing .pdf files, contacts, to make quick notes, and she stores a few pictures on there as well. Mine is used to access contacts (both business and personal), store pictures of my 2year old, playback videos of the 2year old, play MP3s, and I keep backups of important documents on there. I also keep handy access to things like serial numbers, credit card company phone numbers (in case of stolen wallet), etc. using the included Documents to Go software.

I went all around the block with PDAs and I finally settled on an old Ipaq 1945. I love the design.

I am waiting for smartphones to come down in price and add a bit more performance (power/batt life) before I switch.
