What PCS Phone is best for reception?

Does anyone know where there are any reviews about the differences in reception characteristics of various PCS Phones? I'm not talking about extras, like camera, web, etc. I'm most interested in signal strength differences for phones at the same location.

Please, no comments needed about things like "PCS Sucks" or "Sprint sucks", etc. Looking for constructive remarks about phones, particularly if there have been any reviews published.

It's a given, by the way, that a phone with better reception would also have to have better transmission quality (signal strength-wise) as one would be no good without the other.

I've heard the Sanyo's are some of the best. I owned an 8100 and quite frankly I didnt think it was any better than the A500 I had before it or the A600 I have now. I think the A600 is the best overall phone. It's sweet!

Any sanyo. I love my Sanyo SCP-6200.

AngryPirate, what advantages does the A600 have over the Samsung?
I know it has a flash for the camera...

Does it allow you to play wav like files (.qcp in Sanyo's case) for the ringers as well as midis?

Also, how would you rate internet speed using the phone's browser?
I think the Sanyo could be a little faster.

All Sanyo's (at least the ones they still sell). Sanyo's have very "optimistic" reception if you know what I mean, but overall the phones have great reception. The old samsung's (a460, a500) had horrible reception. The A620/A600 have great reception comparable with the Sanyo line. You can't really go wrong with either.

btw, mom owns 8100, i own a620/vga1000, sister owns a500. The a500 is worth it if u can get it for $30 at Best Buy like my sister did, the reception is decent if u get a firmware update or if it's a newer a500. My A620 and my moms 8100 rock though.

It has a flash for the camera but to me its not that big of a eal. I prefer the barrel style of camera as I think it provides greater flexibility on your picture taking.

I mostly prefer it because I think Samsungs menus/interface is superior to Sanyo's. One thing I could never get over is that the 8100 doews not include a dedicated alarm clock. I have used my cell phone as my alarm for the past 4 years and not having this was tough for me.

I also was never a fan of the external LCD and so that feature of the 8100 just wanst a big deal to lose. As far as I know the A600 can play the .wav files. I have downloaded voice ringerrs and they sound great.

yes you can play qcp files on the A600. I also prefer Samsung's menu's to Sanyo's. Camera is totally novelty, unless you have a A600 or Sanyo 5300. Those are the only two camera's decent enough to act as actual cameras. The a620/8100 aren't vey good. Decent, but don't expect too much.

Finally! Someone that agrees with me about Samsung menus! Everyone kept telling me I was stupid for getting my A600 instead of another 8100. I couldn't stand the "hokey" feeling of the Sanyo's menus. I originally got the 8100 as an upgrade to my A500 and while the camera was nice, over time I missed the overall sexiness of the Samsung.

Did they improve the Sanyo reception since the SCP-4500 ? That's the phone I still have and am about to leave Sprint because I don't get a signal from my desk at home (which is important). My fiancee's Verizon phone has 4 bars from the same spot. If the new Sanyo phones make a difference, I may stay with them.. does anyone know about improvement ?

My friend has the Sayno 8100. He loves it a lot, and a lot of other people say the samething.

the 8100 is an incredible phone. If I didn't have Costco's incredible warrenty (can return my A620 anytime to get my $250 and trade it in/keep cash), I would've gotten the 8100. For 79 or 99 dollars at costco you get the 8100, car charger, holster, and earpiece. A small percentage experience some bugs with the A620 but I've yet to run into any. Sanyo's new phone just came out (u can get it at Radioshack but u can't activate it till tomorrow morning) and Sprint is about to introduce readylink (speakerphone) service so prices on these hopefully will drop.

I have a Sanyo SCP-6000. Great little candybar phone. It has better reception than my dad's old Samsung 8500. After my dad got his Sanyo 5300, it mad a total difference. From only being able to talk in certain portions of their house, now he can roam about without getting static and getting dropped calls.

I should have said at the outset that I have an original Samsung 8500, and where I moved to, reception on it is very spotty. I have to go outside to get a usable signal. I've been debating as to whether to change providers as of Nov 24 (when you can keep your current cell number w/different provider) or try a better PCS Phone. Amazon's got the Sanyo 8100 free after two rebates, but one requires a two-year Sprint contract.

Not for Sprint. I think they refuse to use Qualcomm's CDMA chip. I'd still get a Sanyo tho from what I hear and what others have said the new Samsungs seem to be excellent phones as well. I've had my 5300 a little more then a year now and love it.

Motorolla is actually going to start making sprint phones again after a 2 year separation
