I imagine that hardware would be fine for pretty much any game that would run on a Pentium 3. You can do a lot with that.

Arx Fatalis
Jedi Outcast/ Academy
Soldier of Fortune 2
Unreal Gold
Half Life
Deus Ex
Morrowind
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver
maybe GTA: Vice City
maybe Knight of the Old Republic 1
etc, etc, etc...

I used to play OpenTTD pretty much exclusively on my shitty Ideapad S10 with an Atom N270 and GMA 950. Looks like you have better specs to work with, but it is still a fun game, and free if you download the openGFX libraries.

Farmville? j/k... games like Sim City, Counter Strike Source, Angry Birds? DOTA 2 since it is free and you can tone down the graphics.

- Galactic Civilization 2 (runs well but required a mod to allow it to run in 720p resolution)

I like that one, it's a good game.

Funny that it requires a mod to run at 720p. If I remember correctly, they designed the game to run at any future resolutions. I guess they only expected higher resolutions.

Thinking about picking up a netbook for travel, WTF can I run on this thing that would actually be fun? Can it even play ultima online? lol Heroes of Might & Magic? COME AT ME BRO (with suggestions)

OP, I travel frequently and purchased an Asus netbook back in 2008! The thing is SLOW compared to newer models nut I always take it traveling. Not only can I use MS Office but it plays basic games while in-flight. While the screen is small I enjoy watching TV shows and movies as well on the unit.

Suggest you consider a 10 or 12" non-netbook if you wish to play newer games. Unfortunately, airline seats are getting smaller and smaller so a netbook or tablet may be your only option.

It's a great game indeed. Sadly I cannot play it too long on the plane considering the seat ergonomics.

GalCiv2 has a minimum resolution of 1024x768, which vertical resolution is higher than 720p. Easily fixed using a text editor thankfully.

You guys are setting the bar too low. He can play something a little more recent too. Like Warhammer 40k: Dawn or War. Maybe Company of Heroes.

He will probably be able to run Command and Conquer 3. Definitely can play Neverwinter Nights 1 and maybe 2. Lets not forget oldies like Planescape Torment, Starcraft, Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale. And what about NoX? Fable 1? Heroes of Might and Magic 3, 4 and maybe 5? There are many many choices even for a machine with horrible specs like these. It is much better suited for HD movies and perhaps even blu-ray. The c-60 is awesome for that.

Oh and there are also all these indie games like Rochard, Capsized, LIMBO, Bastion, Gish, etc, etc.

I'd be careful on recommending some of these games. The GPU may be reasonably OK but the 1GHz CPU is certainly the Achilles' heel. It is easily below the minimum CPU requirement even for many old games. Games with a lot of things going on in the background will not run well on this platform.

OP, if possible, consider an E350 or E450-based laptop. The 1.6GHz CPU will fare better in games and they typically come with 11" screens (which are not a lot bigger than netbook anyway).

I think LoL and Diablo3 on low video settings could is playable with those specs.

You could also try some old versions of Need For Speed like NFS2 or NFS Carbon. :D

Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies! :D

I posted this thread before I bought the machine. Now I bought the machine.

It actually has 4gb memory + 128gb SSD. Does that help my situation at all?

And as a follow-up to this thread, to start with I'll dl HOMM3, maybe DoD. I'll also reinstall the War3 I got buried in my cabinet.

My netbook has the same upgrades. Helps with loading but does not change the fact that the CPU is very slow.
