played a bunch of random games that I could pirate onto my family's pc when I was a kid. but I didn't really get into pc gaming until my bro introduced me to quake 2 multiplayer (rocket arena 2 mod). that really propelled me into the pc gaming world and I basically stopped console gaming and haven't looked back too much. I think I've spent at least 6 years on that game, then another 5 on various other online fps games.

Priceless gaming moment of the decade imo, really paints a mental picture

I would have to say Super Mario Brothers on the NES, but it wasn't the very first video game I played, but it was the one I played the most on that console back then, and back then my NES was my "real" introduction to the gaming world, so technically speaking I "grew up" on Mario games during a period of around two years until I got my SNES, but then again Super Mario World came with it and I loved it. I played other games of course but yeah, it's a classic, my vote goes for the Mario Bros' series of the golden gaming era.

First games I played were that GORILLAS.BAS thing along with Lemmings on some ancient computer.
Once I got my own PC it was Road Rash 3D (with awesome cutscenes), Shadow Warrior and Mechwarrior 2. After that I was sold on everything Btech.
We played networked Duke Nukenm 3D and Warcraft 2 in high school, that was extremely fun.

Real men flew T/I's and ditched 'shields'.

First ever PC video game I got addicted to was ArcticFox on my Amiga. I played that game for days wondering where the alien secret base was only to flip the game cover over to see a picture of the base WITH the coordinates in the picture! Great times.

Missile boat ftw.

First games? Dinopark Tycoon, Scorched Earth (I love scorched earth), Oregon Trail, Amazon Trail, random Super Solvers games from school. Oh, and Tie Fighter was definitely in there somewhere.

The first game I really got into was probably something on the SNES.

In terms of PCs - it has to be WarCraft 2 and Quake 3 Fortress and TFC..

Commander Keen, Monster Mash, Hugo's house of horrors (series), kings quest, police quest, and kings quest series. LHX Attack Chopper, Zone66, Wolfd3D, Doom 1 / 2, Duke Nukem series, Sim City Classic, C&C 1, x-com 1, Moo2, Star Control series, civilization 2, phantasmagloria (scared the crap out of me when I was a kid, btw)... probably more, but cannot recall off the top of my head.

Ooooh man. So many good memories. Thanks guys, need them, work is a bummer right now. Taking a break, been here since 5am and it's going to be later than that in the p.m. before I'm done. Anyways, backt to topic.

I think I went totally overboard when Wing Commander came out. I had a paper route and it took me a while to save up enough to buy WCII and the Voice Expansion pack that came out. I also had every Star Wars game that came out. A few air sims too. But the one that really brings backs some memories was the mention of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. My dad bought me that game because he said he wanted to get me a game that wasn't all shoot 'em up. Took me a while to beat that game. I remember being stuck forever at this one part because I couldn't find the paper work to get a hot air balloon. Turns out all I had to do was close a box and there was the paper work sitting right on top. I was so pumped when I finally beat it.....sigh. Makes me want to dig the old 486+ out. Then I could also play Mike Ditka's ultimate football. Commander Keen, original wolfenstein. All good things.

This is a somewhat truncated list of my favorite games ever, it actually goes all the way back to 1977 but everything before '83 was all arcade, Atari, or Intellivision stuff. Be forewarned there's still some arcade and console stuff mixed in the list.

My PC gaming hobby started with playing Infocom's Deadline on my neighbors IBM-PC in 1983. The next year I got a Compaq Deskpro "IBM Clone" and I've been gaming with PC's since then.

If it's got an * next to it it's one of the all time greats, I still play those games even now.

1983 - Star Wars(arcade), Deadline
1984 - Spy Hunter(arcade)*, Flight Simulator II
1985 - GATO, Ancient Art of War
1986 - Starflight*, Sopwith 2
1987 - Gunship, Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer
1988 - F-19 Stealth Fighter, Popcorn
1989 - Their Finest Hour, Vette!, Sim City
1990 - Wing Commander, Gain Ground, Operation Thunderbolt
1991 - Flight Simulator 4, F-Zero
1992 - Wolfenstein 3D
1993 - Final Fantasy III, Empire Deluxe, Doom, Simcity 2000, Strike Commander
1994 - wing Commander III, X-Com*
1995 - Descent, Mechwarrior II
1996 - Duke Nukem 3D, Warcraft II, Command and Conquer Red Alert
1997 - Shadows of the Empire, P.O.D. , Civilization II*
1998 - Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy VII
1999 - Homeworld*, Half Life*, Re-Volt
2000 - Metal Gear Solid, The Sims, Black And White
2001 - IL2 Sturmovik, Grand Theft Auto III
2002 - Grand Theft Auto Vice City*
2003 - Orbiter, Madden 2003, Call Of Duty
2004 - Far Cry, Half-Life 2
2005 - Rome Total War, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
2006 - Silent Hunter III

Okay so besides Amstrad CPC 464/Commodore 64 right?

I had an XT, or was it a 286...I don't really remember...DOS of course. The games I grew up on consisted of some of the following:

Populous,
Civilization,
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis,
Monkey Island,
Wild Wheels,
4D Stunt Driving,
Dune 1,
Sim City,
A-Train
 Maxis

and a bit later, maybe on a 486:
Dune 2,
X-Wing,
Civ 2,
Colonization,
Might and Magic 6

man, so many more I could add...
I played most of these on my friend's PC initially, before getting my own maybe around 1994/5
