battlefield 1942. i played the heck out of it, and have been since. i can't think of another game where leagues and teams sprung up around a demo, way before the final game was released. i still fire it up every so often, it's that great of a game. battlefield 2 came close, but it just isn't quite the same. i never really enjoyed vietnam, and 2142 fell flat for me. too many bugs.

On that same token, Deadlock.

"The tarth are big the tarth are tough the tarth will cause you pain. They aren't too bright but when you can headbutt buildings, who needs brains? They've got the greatest farmers but as spies they suck you see. They try to hide their six-foot width behind a one-foot tree."

What a great game.

Oh man I almost forgot about that game. So much fun!

My favorite demo that I played the hell out of was the original Diablo demo. It had only 1 level, which was actually level 2 in the released game so you fought the Butcher. I played that demo to death. Same with the first Sacred demo.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Crysis, both for graphics.

CODMW was impressive graphically because it was so efficient. I couldn't believe how smoothly it played how good it looked given the hardware I had at the time. Now with MW2 the engine really shows its age, but it used to be pretty amazing.

Crysis, well, it obviously didn't play smoothly on my 8800GTS 640, but man, it looked great. The first time I picked up one of the squirming beach critters or dove down in the water to look at the burning flare I had just thrown, really did blow me away.
