Im tring to get the best bang for my buck, but am confused on what P4 to get, a little help would be great. I know Im getting a P4, just not sure what to choose 😕 I know the 1.6 is best for OC'ing, but my goal is to reach a somewhat stable 3.0 Ghz! Just curious on what P4 i should get: 1.6a? 1.8a? 2.26 533FSB? 2.4 400FSB? 2.4 533 FSB? The system this would go for is a Epox 4G4A+, 1 512 DIMM of Corsiar 3200 400MHZ CAS 2 ram, GF4 4600, 450W PSU.

These are based on my experience and my opinion in eother muy own research and testing or what I have seen or heard on the net...

To get to 3ghz...

1.6....About never...water cooling is the only I have ever heard and +1.75vcore which is not advisable....

1.8...maybe but still rare...best shot will only come with newer 68Q version of the chip which is part of the recent die shrink...

2.26ghz...like the 1.8...rare but possible with newer chips...

2.4ghz....better but still difficult...price is a bit high wait until august 25th for price cuts...

2.533ghz...best shot, and represents the most 3ghz chips I have seen to date...This is what I am hedging my bet on getting 3ghz here shortly after price cuts...

2.8ghz (to be released at end of august)...very likely...

Awesome, thanks... That helps a lot. Ya, I herd the 2.8's come out Sep.1
Theres no way im spending 475 bucks on a 2.53 though... Im leaning toward the 2.4 400FSB's... I probly dont want to go past 1.75Vcore, Well I guess I'll just have to wait and see the prices and more info and what not.. thanks agian

NO.... Stay away from any 400mhz fsb chip beyond 1.8a...the multiplier is too high and will only limit you in ram speed which unless you are running rdram will be very important in getting this thing close to that of the charts you see for p4 performance...

The 2.4ghz 533fsb model will be just at 200 dollars come end of august...It has an 18x multiplier meaning a simple 3:4 muliplier common with i845e mobos will get you pc2700 levels...oc it to a very possible 150fsb and you have 400mhz ddr and pc3200speeds which will put you on par with pc1066 rdram...

The 2.53ghz p4should be 250-270 range....Best bet hitting 3ghz...19x multiplier times 158fsb = 3002mhz and 420mhz ddr...very fast rig...

Thats the thing, I will have good RAM.. Not rdRAM though, im getting Corsiars XMS 3200 400mhz DDR, still stay away from 400mhz FSB?
