I have recently gotten the bug to upgrade again (maybe:)) and have been way out of the loop for awhile.

I have a 423 p4t right now that runs great I just am looking to maybe go faster (although I don't know why since my computer waits on me more than I wait on it:))

What new board would you go with??

I have had great success with asus and I know they build good boards but some of the others have raised my interest a bit after reading some on them.

Would you go rdram or ddr??

I have 512 meg of rdram although now I think it is faster rdram that is needed.

I also like to overclock (stable if possible)

Let me know what you think??

I would try selling the rdram before buying the board. It should bring a good price if it's pc800. If you're successful selling it, check out the asus p4pe or albatron px845 pev pro or pro II. Both boards overclock well and are rated for pc2700. If you require agp 8x support, you can go for the gigabyte 8sg667 and some corsair or winbond pc3200. The sis 648 on the gigabyte is only good for 150 fsb or so, while the other two boards may run well at up to 166 fsb with good memory. If you want to use your old rdram, check out the asus boards, or look for closeout deals. Newegg sells some refurbished bare bones boards, and may have some socket 478 rdram boards available. I use an asus p4s533 (refurbished from newegg) with the sis 645dx chipset, and my 2.4b runs well at 150 fsb (about 2700).

So you guys are all saying to drop the rdram and go with ddr??

Looks like there is one clear winner in your recommendations the asus p4b533.

Does this board overclock well??

How much should one hope to spend on ddr memory?? versus rdram??

I am in the same situation! My 850 board will not work with PC1066 RDRAM so I am looking for a good price on one of the new Granit Bay boards! Need to get rid of 1GB or PC800 first though!

Anybody found any decent prices on the GB boards???

You might want to look at the Albatron PX845PEV PRO. This mobo officially supports DDR 333 and is very overclockable. AnandTech gave it good reviews. Great price too($78 at Mwave).

I am really not interested in the "micro atx" style of boards I would like a full atx style.

I don't know what/if I even care about bells and whistles?? But some the things they have now would be nice such as onboard nic, firewire, usb 2.0 (standard on most now), serial ata etc.

If I could do my upgrading for a reasonably low price I might actually jump on it. But it also seems that we are a crossroads once again and I swore after this last upgrade with the go no where p4 I wouldn't jump in on anything new but the new stuff seems like it could be really good??

Is rdram really worth anything anymore?? I might be best served to get rid of it while I still can if they are going to more or less end its life span.

Any others have any ideas on this??

Should I dump the rdram and go to ddr?? I have been reading on it and it seems that rdram is still faster by a little and since I already have it why not reuse it??

Let me know:)

Go with DDR memory, its used by more companies on there boards, so there is a good chance that youll be able to use it down the road if/when you upgrade again.
The P4B533 board is good too

no, but I'll mention the EPoX 4PEA+ :)

What chipset is this??

Some options I think would be nice are 2.0 usb, firewire, oboard nic, 8x agp (not that it matters much). Overclockability would be really nice as long as its stable. I also don't want to spend to much:)

Or should I just wait till the next best thing?? I really am in no huge hurry to do this so I don't have to get on any bandwagon fast. I do love my p4t's stability as it is the most stable board I have ever owned.

It does seem ddr may be the way to go now as it looks like rdram is going to meet is demise soon. Though the rdram boards do seem to be the fastest still if only by a couple of points on most benchmarks.

if you are in no hurry ~ then wait for the Asus P4g8x Granite bay DCDDR board to be in stock somewhere.
<ETA: 1/22 ???>

Ya I could but you guys all seem to want to wait for the next generation. What is it canterberry, springdale or whatever the he!! they call it??:) So maybe then I could justify buying a granite bay board:) I am not into the high end price stuff anymore but want high end performance. I will let you guys go through the growing pains of the new platforms and I will wait until they have all the wrinkles ironed out. I paid dearly for the setup I have now and I don't regret it other than I can't upgrade but have learned my lesson on paying way more than what something is worth:)

I may even wait until next winter as I don't do a whole lot of computing in the summertime. Just trying to get a handle on what is coming and what is worth the wait and what isn't. I would buy tomorrow if I could find the right deal on something:)

Ok looked over all of the asus boards. Seems that none of them support firewire or should I say have firewire onboard. This seems to me like it would be a nice option to have am I wrong??

I do have a video camera that I would use more if I had this option.
