What overclocks better?

OK, since i've decided to stop trying to build a P4 rig, i'm gonna be upgrading my amd rig.

I want to know, what overclocks better out of these chips?

- 1700+ Tbred B
- 2100+ Tbred B
- 2500+ Barton

They will be rigged up with either a epox 8rda+ or a a7n8x deluxe and a stick of pc3000 hyperx ram. Cooling wise, i'll stick with stock for now, or i'll get a alpha pal if i got some spare cash


So what should i go with?

if you do a search you'll see the answer you are looking for...

and define what you mean by better? do you mean better as in... a 1700+ (1.47) can be overclocked to 2.3 to 2.4 from the stock 1.47 ghz so it's better than a 2100+ in that you can get more mhz out of the o/c or....

better as in... the 2100+ should be able to hit 2.4 to 2.5 so it's "better" at hitting a higher clock speed...

or

better as in... the 2500+ can overclock decently to 2.2 to 2.3 (some even 2.4) but it's "better" due to its larger L2 cache....

Best bang for the buck pretty much.

I know the 1700+ can do 2600+ out of the box (does for me), but was wondering if a 2100 can do better, or even a barton.

The tbred 1700 are overclocking better than the xp2100's.

human2k, I would say you are wrong there. A few of the 1.5V steppings are doing really well, but so many more people buy the 1700+ than the 2100+. The problem w/ the 1700+ is there's a chance of getting a pretty poor core. W/ the 2100+ you most likely are going to have a great overclock.

Just got the A7N8XS Deluxe with a PC3000 512MB Kingston Hyper X Chip and an XP2100. Pushed up to XP2700+ speed without even trying.

not true at all...

i've gone through many 1700 and 2100+'s... 10 to be exact....

the 0301 aiuhb 2100+ i had was a crappy overclocker... did less than 2.2 ghz

to this date, the best o/c-ing onei've had is a 0310 1700+

define what you mean by poor? if poor means only getting 2.3 ghz, then yeah, your definition of poor is right on....

the best 2100+ i had was a 0302 that did 2.34 ghz @ 1.775 volts...

XP1700+ are awesome when you factor in the price, XP2100+ are just as good and probably get slightly more on average. The Barton XP2500+ seem to be a little hit and miss and aren't worth the extra asking price to an o/c'er PLUS they tend to have mroe trouble reaching 400FSB which won't please those looking for every last % of perf. The XP1700+ & XP2500+ both use multipliers from the lower table and as such are freely adjustable between 5.5x and 12.5x on any mobo supporting mult adjustment. The XP2100+ to XP2400+ (and XP2600+ 266FSB) all use mults form the higher table and may appear locked on many mobos, 13x won't be too limiting but 15x and up will be ... although you can always do a bridge mod if needs be. Basicly XP1700+ TbredB is top dog at the mo and for good reason!
