What other divx codec do I need?

Oops hit enter.

Anyway I got 4.12 from www.divx.com but I forgot what else I had installed before I formated, so half of my divx files say "this format is not supported" and won't play any of them.

Which one am I missing? Talk about a brainfart.

3.11a but, you can select "have divx4 play all divx3 content" when you run the divx4 installer, and it works fine.

Unless of course they use the old MP42 codec.

Either do that or get the actual 3.11a here. Some people says it looks better. IMO, it looks the same for decoding, but 3.11a is better for encoding.

If even after you have installed both the 3.11 and 4.12 divx codecs and some files still don't work, I find that installing Windows Media Player 7.1 often solves the problem. If you don't like WMP 7.1, you can just uninstall it afterwards and you will still be able to play those files.

before, some audio wouldn't work, so installed the Playa, guess it came witha special codec or something. but yea, use 4.1x and 3.11a

I will have to get the name from home but there is a massive codec bundle called nemo or something like that. N-something. It installs every codec you would ever need to view anything. More info from home.

<< sometimes you need to try different players before you find one that works properly for the video in question. >>

I only use WMP 6.4 and I play everything except a few .mov files and Real Media stuff.

For some reason, when I select "Have DivX4 play all DivX3 content" it overwrites the MP3 compression options. I have both DivX 4.12 and 3.11a and it works fine.

I've found that 3.11a produces smaller files, but is more CPU-intensive (can't capture in real-time without dropping frames).

Instead of starting a new thread I will try this one for my question....... I want to convert analog video from my 8mm vid cam to Divx, I can capture vid into PC using WinTV card that uses Happauge codec for making AVI file. How do I then reprocess into Mpeg4?

I can use different codecs when I capture but it gets all jerky when I try the Divx 3.11 to do the direct capture compression.
