Work and home WinXP Pro. Went from 2k to XP just too see what it was like. I liked the updates and features of XP, especially the compatibilty modes, so I kept it on both.

OpenBSD 3.0 -stable for Desktop and webserver
OpenBSD 2.9 for firewall (cant beat IPF 😉)
Debian GNU/Linux with kernel version 2.4.16 for stuff (eccp mostly)
Mac OS X.1.2 on my iBook for general purpose mobile computing

I use various OSes at work for different things.

Home Main PC - Windows XP (everything internet and non-internet related)
Home Second PC - Redhat Linux 7.2 (apache, bind, ssh, and vnc server; soon mysql will be added to the list; also used as PC for parents to browse the net if I happen to be on the main one)

Work Main PC - Windows Millennium (sp?) (Yes, it does really suck, and I got permission to upgrade to 2k or XP, but haven't had time to do so yet)

Win95.

I'm going to be purchasing a new PC. Choice of OS's are...
Win2kpro: $157
WinXPpro: $157
XP home: $105

.....any suggestions?

Windows 2000 is my favorite. I have a Win98 partition for some older programs my wife uses. Just started learning Linux and taking classes for it too. My view is that I probably will move to Linux personally within the year because it is cheaper, more reliable, and there is a ton of free software for it. But I will probably keep around a Windows box for those Windows-only proggies and as a test box for networking.

Alot of people are towards the W2K OS, but some say XP is the best. For those people who like XP, what makes it such a great operating system? You have me tempted to try it out....

Also, some people like flavors of unix alot, y? Besides stability ad reliabilty, whay choose over W2K or XP? Easier to use?

I find OpenBSD to be the easiest OS ever. And the security record is impressive 😉

Because I'm 10 times more efficient working in a UNIX environment than in Windows. Ever since I really learned UNIX several years ago, I have found myself held back when trying to work in Windows. Too many things that I simply couldn't do. This has improved over time, and Microsoft has made its NT series have more and more UNIX-like features.. but it will never be the same. Linux gives me a level of flexibility and control that will never be achievable with Windows. It's easier for me to use, faster, more stable, and has all the software I want to use for it.

<< Windows Me....because I like a challenge🙂 >>

I use WinME too. Please don't hurt me. 😱

I just use it for websurfing, chat, email, and very little for games so it suits me. I plan on switching to winXP or win2k eventually. 🙂

I use Windows 98 and Mandrake 8.1. I tried to get Red Hat to install, but the install process would always crash.
