vista32
vista64
xp
w2k
w98
win311
dos6.2
linux
bsd

w98, win311, dos6.2 machines don't get powered up very often.

Chose vista in the poll mainly since I'm typing in it now, and since I've bad mouthed it for so long, I thought I'd try something different. (The ui is still annoying in that it's different from xp in some places for no apparent good reason - I still hate that I can't use alt-enter in explorer to get the dir size.)

The laptop, which is what I use most often, is Vista Business. Still have an active desktop with XP Pro, but that will probably be replaced by Vista Ultimate or Vista Home Premium when I build a new one.

Work is majority 2k with shots of XP Pro where we've been able to upgrade.

Alt-Enter works for me. It opens up the properties dialog.

Desktop: (Triple Boot) Windows Vista Ultimate x64, Hackintosh OS X 10.5.4, Ubuntu 8.04
Laptop (Macbook Pro): (Dual Boot) OS X 10.5.4 (Windows XP Pro SP3 on a virtual machine), Ubuntu 8.04
Phone: OS X or something.

It does for me too when focus is in the right pane. But in the left (Folders) pane, where I usually am when navigating the drive/directory structure, explorer just beeps.

Another annoyance is the tab order. When the focus is in the left pane in xp, a tab will move focus to the right pane. To get there in vista, tab must be pressed three or four times - confusing like w2k was.

I use the kbd a lot, so someone who doesn't might not notice this. In the developer guidelines, microsoft stated for years that all features in the ui should be accessible via the kbd - to take into account a missing mouse. Things appear to be quietly changing.

i've been wanting to make linux my main OS for the past 10 years now. but I always say, when they do a little better on "this" then i'll switch over completely.

What is Win200? 😛

No NT3.x and 4.x love?

I actually liked NT4 because it was harder for people to mess with.

Almost forgot! OS/2, RiscOS - this IS a nerd forum is it not? 😛

OP your poll should've been like this:
1) Vista Home Premium
2) Vista Ultimate
3) Vista Basic
4) I'm stuck in the past
5) I think different!
6) I am r00t!

for the lulz, of course.
