I have a number from two years ago. When I moved I had that number forwarded. Evidently someone named Edna Banks is a fvcking deadbeat, so companies continually call my old number and then reach me. Most companies accept my explaination and remove BOTH numbers from their database. I just received a call a few minutes ago from Compass Bank. I told the guy I don't know who she is, and that my number needs to be removed from their database. He said he CANNOT do that, and that that is the number of record they have for her(the old number which fowards to my new number). He told me I'd have to have the phone company stop the forward, or get a new number. WHAT the hell? There is zero way I'm going to do that. He told me he cannot remove the number because it would delete her account.

That sounds like it is THEIR problem and not mine. I'm not going to call the goddamn phone company over their problem. What legal options do I have? I called back to the number on Caller ID, and they told me I cannot talk to a supervisor or manager without an account.

Drop the words "lawsuit" and "harassment". In other cases they'd probably fight it, but in this case you clearly have justification to sue their asses for bugging you. They'll probably change their tune quickly.
 
Next time they call tell them that you asked already to be removed. Then ask for their name, and tell them that you have documented the call and will be contacting your lawyer.

I'm not even sure why it is still being forwarded. I thought they stopped after 90 days, so it was news to me when he said that. I just tried the number, and yep it still forwards to me...

So cancel it? But I'd do this just for principle... make that fvcktard pay. THEN cancel the number. :evil:
 
Add your number and the forwarded number to National Do Not Call Registry After 3 months, you'll be able to file a complaint. When they call again, immediately ask them to provide their full name (which they legally have to provide), the full name of their supervisor, and tell them to add you to their "Do Not Call" list. They can be fined up to $10,000 per call once your number is registered on the list.

In the meantime, report them to your local phone company as a harassing caller. Depending upon your local laws, you might also be able to file a complaint with your local police department.

Lastly, contact the phone company who's processing the forwarded number. You are correct that the number should not be forwarded after 90 days. They probably forgot to remove the trigger in the telephone switch. Most likely, you can get the trouble resolved by calling them and politely asking to have the forward removed.

Actually, even if you *were* that Edna person, you could tell them that they could not phone you anymore, even if they were a creditor. It's the law. They can't continue to harass anyone by phone.

Hence the insertion of the words "harassment" and "lawsuit" into the conversation. 😉

Yup. It's good to know your rights when dealing with creditors.

Ding Ding Ding. Tell them not to call again (and that if they do you will report them for telephone harrasement), if they do call the police and report telephone harrasement.
 
I finally was able to contact someone at their Arizona CS office. He apologized for the other person's behavior, and said the number would be taken out of the database and off their call lists within 24 hours. I'm satisfied with that. Tommorrow I'm going to make sure I get that forward taken care of.

I hope that works, I have been told that multiple times by people and I still get calls for someone named Gerald ever since I activated my Free2Go account 6/2003.

I was getting from 2 to 10 calls per week and I would always inform the person that this is a cell phone and that person no longer has this number. The numbers would eventually change every month or so but Google searches still showed they were Banks or collection agencies.

My last call was 6/12 and they haven't called back since (crossing fingers) It may have to do with registering with the Do Not Call website several months ago but I doubt it. If I ever get another phone, I will ask for a dead number or one that has been inactive for a long time if possible.
 
Frig that crap. Somebody called me for collections once too, but I said it wasn't me, and they didn't call back. I would tell this guy that you'll consider it harassement if he keeps calling. You going out of YOUR way is like me going out of my way and submitting a form on a website to get spam stopped. It's bullsh*t.
 
I get calls on my cellphone for some elderly guy. At first I thought he was a parole dodger (when I got a call from his PO) but after a call from his doctor about how he forgot his arthritis medication I'm thinking he's just a little forgetful.

Now I've been getting automated phone reminders for my TracFone subscription. The thing is, I'm not a TracFone customer. I figured it was just a number that hadn't been updated until I got a calendar mailer from them. It doesn't say specifically if I'm a customer but it has stickers to help remind you when to pay your bill. I'm gonna need to check into it.
