The notebook had XP on a FAT32 drive and it did run OK except for a modem connection problem that could not be resolved, so I have reformatted the drive and just tried a fresh install of XP, but the modem problem continues. Basically the connection to the ISP is made but after some time 1min to 30min it will look connected but no traffic will be incoming, very frustrating when you are trying to upgrade XP with the updates. It is a Cnet PCMCIA modem CFM260, the Card controller is a Texas, and the notebook is a 3100c clone, tried all sorts of new drivers, etc. Very frustrating, especially after deleting an otherwise fine system.
