Is it really 85% or ~6B people? Needed to research it for something and that's what I found. Had no idea it was that high.

Third world simply means neither Capitalist (or those allied with the USA (UK, France, Canada, Australia, etc), nor Communist (USSR or those allied with them - aka eastern bloc + cuba). So basically all of africa minus south africa, All of Asia minus USSR, NK, Vietnam (including China, as they were never aligned with either side), all of south and central america minus mexico. So yeah, pretty much most of the world.
