I have to admit, I'm one of those who salivate at the possibility of being one of the Wolverines, but honestly, I'd never want it to actually happen.

What % of households in the U.S. are SERIOUSLY prepared for an apocalypse?

and of that, how many is it specifically the "Zombie Apocalpyse"?

And another question, is the "apocalypse preparedness" higher now then it was in the 1950's when we were actually building bunkers on our property?

and ANOTHER question

of the 1950's preparedness levels, how many of those would have salivated for a zombie apocalpyse?

post your favorite apocalypse preparedness youtube video for me to lulz

What percentage are born-again Christians? Probably around that many.

Actually, it's probably way higher. I'm sure several other religions that I'm less familiar with have their own envisioning of the end of the world in which the righteous are swept away to everlasting life and the wicked are punished in some way. Add in the atheist nerds who are spoiling to face down demons, vampires, cyborgs, and zombies and I suppose most of America is hoping for an apocolypse of some sort.

Knowing my survival skill, I have zero chance of surviving an apocalypse. I certainly can't out-run a yao guai or a death claw. If I want to see a movie about surfing, napalm, and gunboat excitement, I just pop in the "Apocalypse Now" DVD.

Guns and Liquor, lol

if you watch alot of it, when he says "these guns are all clear i checked them" and then when he de-clips a pistol (9mm i think) and unloads the shotgun he's all "SH!T" cuz they are loaded

He probably died during the filming

I had to laugh at the term "de-clip". Lol.

Some people are paranoid though, cant do anything about it

I do, but only if I get to control a few cities and towns. Maybe a large chunk of a State would work too, I could be the new King of Colorado.

One of my favorite genre of fiction, though I imagine I would be among the first to starve to death or turn to cannibalism if the real thing came around.

I put the portion of Americans who want to see an apocalypse at 36% based on the first number that pooped into my head. I put the portion of Americans preparing for same at less than 1%. It could be higher if you throw in the Mormons but I'm not sure how many of them actually believe their food stockpile will really do any good if the crap hit the fan. I think most folks realize that in the face of cataclysm individual preparation will only go so far without complementary communal preparation.

My Pat Robertson 700-club religious sis likes the fact everything is going to hell (no pun) in the world i.e. floods, quakes, tornadoes, and 1st of all politics. She believes this means the "rapture" is at hand. So she and others don’t really mind America falling apart or the floods or the disasters.
My comeback to her is... what if there is no rapture and things just keep getting worse and worse and really bad for everyone, you too?
They cannot forsee an apocalypse without first having the rapture. That is what many believe.
But... what if everything keeps going to shit, people keep voting stupid, people keep watching fox, listening to Rush, until we make our own apocalypse right here on earth? Plus... without the rapture clause....

That's the rub. History has had many Apocalypse(collapse of Civilization) type events. None have had Raptures.

I'm going to guess more people were prepared for the apocalypse back in the 1950s.

Back then it was a real possibility.

if it's any amount greater than 0.0000001%, then we have clearly failed to educate our children.

this pretty much follows the recent antics of the teabaggers in congress, and is not shocking.

I'm currently reading a piece on Bachman in last week's New yorker--holy hell these people are certified nutters. Their beliefs are such a small minority of practicing christians in this country, but you wouldn't even know it. They have the voice of a red-headed step child and they want everyone to hear them.

the whole "Israel's existence is pre-ordained in the Bible by Paul, and is a recognized sign of the Apocolypse" spiel is rather tightly woven in their mantra. Of course, people have been praying for and expecting the end of the world since we've been chipping symbols into mud bricks so there isn't much new with that....but you'd think that after ~5000 years, people would have realized after a solid and uninterrupted 100% failure rate with their premonitions, nothing they do on this earth, let alone any amount of sky-born ghosts, is going to end this world.

wow.
