I'm leaning toward a pair of 980s unless something pops up on the NVidia front. Specifically EVGA brand

With that said, is there any reason to go custom board(Classified) over reference board? Is it worth $100-$150 to get a Classified?

i have a similar setup (3970x)
i dont think there are good gpu's on the market atm.

gtx 980 are the best choice, but arent good.

- cheaper materials pbs than titan and 780ti
- 4gb vram and no 8gb options

i m gonna wait for full maxell, no good cards out atm.

if u re in hurry, pick 980, but it s not a good card

Nhirlathothep, it seems like 4GB ram is the norm for "top of the line" cards and that 6/8 are sort of the exception in rare cases... if we ignore the "two GPU SLI/Crossfire on one card" cases.

garagisti, I'm not exactly anti-AMD but right now the AMD cards(2xx) are at the tail end of their life cycle. I'd rather buy a card that is just released or close to it. I could almost consider an AMD 3xx card.

I'm still probably a week away from my 970 refund so I will probably wait another week to see if there is a hint on either front for something new especially if there is a whisper of a 6-8GB 980.

for nvidia gpus, 4gb vram on top of the line cards is a marketing strategy.

to make u buy another card next year

it is not a problem for pple changing hardware every 6 months, but it s a big problem for pple using their gpus for years.

Your cpu is nearly perfect. Feel free to get 290x or 980 or two of them in cf/sli. Your cpu would rarely bottleneck 2 high end cards.

If i had your money and set up,i may be tempted to go with tri-sli 6gb 780 cards.Mostly for the upcoming games that may need 4gb or even more.Unless the 980 debuts some 8gb cards,i think this may be the next best thing.

Typical solution would be sli 980 of course, especially if you intend on switching them out in the next year or sooner.

Sapphire 290x in the 8gb flavor would be so awesome in Crossfire, you wouldn't be worrying about anything for a while.

if u play games at max settings 3gb are trash, 4gb are not enough too

if u like compromise (and it s easy to do without losing quality) 4gb are ok

this taliing about today's games. if u want a better future proof gpu : u need 8gb vram

btw i have 3gb gpus atm
