What New Jersey suburbs are a.) commutable to Philly and b.) nice places to live?

Hamilton (close to the train station!)

I'd say explore the following counties:
Burlington
Gloucester
Camden
Mercer

There are nice areas in each of them and you should be able to find ~1 hour transportation to the city.

Small world, I also grew up in Mt. Laurel (Lenape High class of 96).

Houses are experiencing inflation, but overall great place to live. 10 years ago my grandfather sold about 100 acres for 1 mil, and now they're offering him 3 mil for his remaining 30 acres...

There are a lot of little new developments, anywhere in the 200K - 500K+ range. There is usually alot of comraderie with neighbors depending on the development you live in!

I spent a lot time in Medford, my dad's old g/f (she was a real estate agent) had a house there off a lake... it's alot quieter than Mt.Laurel, more upscale in the 90's although I'm sure Mt. Laurel has caught up since alot of expensive housing has been added. Kids stereotypically from Medford were your rich with money, I have nothing better to do so let's do drugs type. Drug use seemed to be more profound in Medford b/c of the more upscale standard of living (maybe they could afford more too with their higher allowances?). Also, it's in the middle of the woods and close to the Pine Barrons so there wasn't much to do except drink and do drugs (whereas Mt.Laurel is alot closer to Philly and u can drive a much shorter distance to 3-4 malls).

My mom lives in Moorestown now. There are areas of town that you can find affordable housing, it varies... overall, in the price range that you are looking for, you're going to pay way more than the property is worth since Moorestown has a great school system (Mt.Laurel does too, but not as good), and Moorestown has alot of "old money". If you drive down Main Street and keep going east towards the houses you'll see what I mean. My g/f lives in downtown philly, and it's only a 15-20 minute drive over the Betsy Ross to 95 South. With traffic, it could be 30-40 minutes max... My mom commutes to downtown Philly every morning and works there, she's never had a problem with the commute (and she hates driving). Overall a great place to commute from if you can afford the high property taxes (6-7K on a 200-250K house)...

Too far south for what? I live in Turnersville (right next) to sewell and it takes me like 20 min to get to work in Philly. It's a nice area, and easy commute to Philly.

we have friends who moved to marlboro, (burlington), nj from brooklyn, ny. they love it and they have 2 kids so the schools must be pretty good.

i did a mapquest directions query and it's about 15 miles or 24 minutes according to them.

In 1996 Delran HS beat Marlboro in a football game and were given a police escort out of town because of the rowdy, violent fans. Times change, it's been almost 10 years since I've been down there, but I got the impression that day that the school system wasn't the greatest. YMMV.
