LOTR online sounds interesting.

Star trek online could be decent if they do it right but that's not coming out until 2007.

Any decent big mmorpgs coming out before christmas this year that anyone knows of? :D

Theres still a ton of life in the genre. Vanguard might be the next Everquest, but mmorpgs aren't leaving anytime soon. EQ1/Lineage/FFXI for the hardcore player. EQ2/WoW for the more casual player. Then there are mmo's not in the fantasy category like SWG, Eve, Matrix Online.

I'd love for Vanguard to be the next Everquest but it isn't, imo, the genre's last hope by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm still just waiting for an actual *roleplaying* game, instead of the endless level treadmills they are throwing at us with the latest generation of games.

What's to stop you from 'roleplaying' in these game rather than do the leveling treadmills? I was on FV in EQ, the 'roleplaying' server, and there were lots of guilds and people who were happy to be low level, but roleplayed their time online rather than level.

Good point, my comment was worded poorly - it's my last hope for the genre, seeing as how I dislike the directions genre has gone in. On the one end you have the fusion of CS "pwnz0r4g3" and levelling / equipment... on the other you have "pay as you play".

*nod* I think if you see it as a treadmill rather than an enjoyable, immersive adventure, you're missing the point.

Knew about the D&D and the warhammer one but I am just wondering if anything decent coming out before christmas of this year.

Seems like all these games are going to be beta testing in mid 2006 and come out in 2007.

I'm actually kinda looking foward to D&D online, especially if I can convince my old gaming buddies from college to play it. the idea of the entire game taking place inside an underground dungeon seems a bit weird, though.

don't know if it will be worth leaving WoW for, but I'll at least read the reviews and keep an open mind.

Sounds like the module the World's Largest Dungeon or something like that... that thing is just absurdly huge, and would taken thousands upon thousands of hours to complete it. But within the dungeon, you could escape to other planes and dimensions... so it wasn't exactly all underground. Perhaps this is similar.

That sounds about right Looney and keep in mind that the Drow Elves & Guergar Dwarves have entire megaplex cities underground as well (plus the Drow have always been tne most popular race in AD&D folklore).

Was wondering if you knew more information about that Warhammer Online? Funkertosh

If so please tell me a website or something.. I'm getting real sick of Mythic and what they are doing to Dark Age of Camelot. It was a really good game but they messed it up real bad.

They need to make an MMO with a mature rating. Something that has under garments as equippable clothing, full nudity. Very dark feel, vampires, werewolves; plus the standard elves, dwarves, humans, etc. Elven Werewolf, human werewolf, dwarf vampire, halfling vampire, etc.

But it'll never happen because it'd cut their market base to a fraction of the total. :(

Some people are saying that Heroe's Journey and Age of Conan might be interesting in terms of originality.

After quitting WoW, I am looking for the next new big mmorpg. I am starting to think that following the game's development and getting into beta is more fun than anything else.

That being said, I have hopes for LOTR:eek:nline and Vanguard.

Bleh I hate following development and I hate godamn betas. It's such a drag waiting for games like that, especially MMOs.

Personally i'm lookin at Vanguard for expansive environment, awesome graphics and challenging/fun pve gameplay (but if I hear anything about end game being composed entirely of raids in the eq/wow sense i'll be dropping it like a bad godamn habit) and Darkfall for a return uo style pvp and character development.

I don't know much about any of the others.

Would anyone care to elaborate for me on why they are interested in LOTR, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Warhammer Online or D&D online?
