What music software do YOU use?

Started with Winamp over a decade ago. In 2005, I installed iTunes on my XP install to manage my new iPod Nano. It was terribly laggy and I generally HATED it. Plus, I would often play mp3s from mIRC, which iTunes did not like. Kept on with Winamp for most of my music needs

In 2007, I upgraded to an x2 3800+ with 4x as much ram as my old 3.0C and suddenly iTunes wasn't such a bad application. I still used Winamp for most of my stuff, but iTunes didn't make me want to contract leprosy as an alternative to using it.

Then in 2008, Apple gave me a killer feature I loved -- Genius Mode playlists. I always liked having randomized playlists but they always sucked -- I always ended up listening to intros and skits. I didn't like it. But a randomized feature that was actually SMART? I'm in. I switched over to iTunes full time right and there.

In 2010, I switched to OS X. I continue to use iTunes.

And I also find myself listening to XM Radio over the Internet a lot now. I have an album collection of around 1500 albums but having a DJ tell me what to listen to is way easier sometimes (sounds so lame as I type it -- but it isn't a ClearChannel exec telling me what I should hear).

Winamp for music - been using it since 1998 or so

VLC for videos

i have a library in WMP as well but it is only used because other devices look for that when sharing across the network. mostly the xbox want it for streaming music, i use PS3MS to push movies around

I should add the reason I use VLC everywhere but home is that it can run off a thumb drive and doesn't touch the registry. No admin access needed to run it.

Looks like you guys are onto a winner. I've used Foobar for a day now and it's pretty damn awesome. Love the minimalist design and the sexy alien icon.

Glad you like it. It's simple without looking like 1999, and has easy access to do what you need, without ridiculous clutter, and a bunch of features that were added to justify a new version number. I wish more software would take their approach :^)

Edit:
Btw, for you Ironwing, they make a portable version. I like VLC for individual clips, but for dealing with playlists, and libraries, I prefer Foobar.

I use MediaMonkey to tag and add album art and them upload to my server where iTunes takes over. Truth be told I use Pandora, Slacker, and shoutcast 98% of the time.

Foobar, it has the best support for multiple codecs, high resolution files and ASIO support for my USB EMU 0204.

iTunes on OS X. I say on OS X because iTunes is good on Mac, while on Windows it sucks the big one.

So true.

On PC, Zune, Winamp, and Foobar are all quite good. I think I prefer Zune, though it's not installed at the moment. WMP is okay, but not nearly as good as the above.
