It seems that the correct question should be What movie sequals should have been made?, there will be fewer to list.

That hits the nail on the head. Any crappy unsuccessful movie won't get a sequel (Ishtar #2 anyone?) so any sequel is facing an uphill battle just to get close to the original. Most are utter junk tossed together to cash in on the name like Men in Black II, the Jurassic Parks, Beverly Hills Cop 2 and 3, etc. A few are worthwhile attempts that show a little effort and are entertaining if not as good as the first. Movies like Airplane II, Lethal Weapon II, Toy Story II fit that category. But a sequel that's as good as or better than the original is a very short list. I'd figure The Empire Strikes Back as being better than Star Wars (although the next 3 sucked), Godfather 2 was as good as The Godfather. T2: Judgement Day was better than The Terminator and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was a hell of a lot better than Indiana Jones 2, so maybe that qualifies although they really should have stopped after Raiders of the Lost Ark as they were never going to top that.

Wasn't Raiders of the Lost Arc the sequal to Temple of Doom? Alien3 should have never been made, though I think they did top the first one with Aliens.

Nope, Raiders was the first Indiana Jones movie. Temple of Doom was number 2 and nearly destroyed the series, but they partially redeemed it with #3, The Last Crusade.

Thats true, but I remember hearing that Temple of Doom was actually a prequel to Raiders. Taking place like 10 years beforehand.

Has LOTR 2 been released yet? How can anyone say it's great/bad?

Speed 2 was the biggest POS I've ever seen. The part with the cruise ship practically driving on the roads... bah.

Temple of Doom was pretty weak too, although The Last Crusade was really good.

Star Trek V the final frontier, and Star Trek Generations were hella weak too (things have gone from weak to superweak).

I'm gettig the vibe that American Pie 3 shouldn't have even been contemplated. How the hell can they make it.

The Two Towers isn't even a sequel. It's all one movie, filmed in the same place by the same cast and crew from the same script by the same director. It's just split into 3 pieces to make more money.

Here's more:

Bad:
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (okay, it's not technically a sequel, but it's sort of a sequel to the TV series), Star Trek III, Star Trek V
Superman III, Superman IV
All of the "Ernest goes to..." movies
Dumb and Dumber 2 - I don't even have to see this one before sticking it on this list
Friday the 13th ANYTHING
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch
Robocop 3
Star Wars Ep 1
Kickboxer 2
The Land Before Time 37

Good:
Star Trek II, Star Trek IV, Star Trek VI
Superman II
Terminator 2 - Hopefully, we will be able to add Terminator 3 to this list

Gee, guess which list is shorter?

FYI, Raiders of the Lost Ark did come out before Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. But the Temple of Doom was a prequel. BTW, Kate Capshaw (the hot chick in Temple of Doom) married Spielberg! Hopefully, Indiana Jones IV will be good.

How about"The Mummy Returns"? That film completely repeated the first one. There wasn't a SINGLE original scene in the entire movie. I couldn't believe my eyes as I watched it. I remember feeling like someone just ripped 500 yen (steep rental fees over here) right out of my hands and ran away laughing.
