What mouse to buy

I actually already bought the MX1000 from logitech but unfortunately it doesnt seem to fit my CS playing style. I have sensitivity set to low (1.9) in CS and I pick up the mouse quite a bit. The lag gets me killed too much. I'm thinking about returning it to try another one, but i suspect it will be the same. I'm guessing that those people who "have no problem" with the lag simply don't play FPS or they dont require the same level of precision that I do. I don't really think that out of all of us, they just happened to get the "good ones" and the rest of us got the bad apples. Doesn't make sense. I'll probably try it out for a few more days though.

I'm currently using the MS intellimouse explorer 3.0 which has worked great for me since '99 (when i bought the original version). I'm wondering now whether i should:

a) Keep this mouse (explorer 3.0) since it works great for just about every use, or

b) Buy an MX510 for improved gaming performance (even though I kinda wanted a cordless mouse), or

c) Buy the wireless intellimouse explorer. I do prefer the smoothwheel of the new explorer and the mousewheel seems a bit easier to click without accidentally hitting the tilt wheel.

Everyone says that the MX510 is still reigning king of mice for gaming, but I honestly don't know if i'll be able to tell the difference between that and my current mouse. Anyone used both of these mice and can give me a comparison from a gaming perspective?

Assuming they function similarly, then i'm wondering if the new wireless explorers work as well as their wired counterparts. If so, i'll probably buy one of those as it'll work for my games, i want a cordless mouse, and I like the feel of the MS mice.

do what i plan on doing i got a mx700 for when i want wireless and i am going to pickup a mx510 for gaming since the mx700 is just not precise enough for gaming for me. right now i am using a intellimouse optical which is one of the first optical mice. its working but i hope to improve my accuracy by getting a mx510

I owned an Intellimouse wireless mouse and I hated it. I didn't like how it ate batteries and it was not very accurate. I recently got a MX510 (blue color, my favorite) and it is great. I don't mind it not being wireless and it is very comfortable to use. It is very accurate and the extra buttons makes web browsing easy.

my new mouse (razer diamondback) is superb. i play a lot of counterstrike source, and i am actually noticeably better than i was with my old one. it feels like butter, n has twice the DPI (1600) of the mx510. i really recommend it :)

how about D) keep the laser mouse for a bit and see how it goes? it might take a while for you to adjust since you had been using the same mouse for 4 years.

I loved my MX700 for gamming. It was heavy and took some getting use too at first.

The Problem: The recharching base. After a while the mouse and base don't connect well. When the mouse sits in the base and isn't connected, it's still on. Since the LED is above the base, it kicks up to full brightness and drains faster than durning normal use. I had two of these and the same problem both times. Works great for a while, then always messing around to get the base and mouse to connect. Walk away after they are connected only to come back and find the mouse on in it's base. Often the mouse was dead at this point.

I could have gotton a third one but decided not too. The cost of the battiers was high, and I figured it was only a matter of time until the thing went bad again.

I now have a MX510.

Just thought I'd make a comment about what you said about the Logitech MX1000. I have to agree with what you said about there not being "bad" mice, just people who use them differently. And this is coming from someone who loves his MX1000. However I could easily see how, if my gaming style were different I would have a problem.

On MX700, the base will not recharge the batteries anymore. I tried new rechargable batteries of the same type and rating and also a higher rating and none of them will charge. Is the charger bad or is it the brand of battery?

You would probably be satisfied with either the Razer Diamondback or Logitech MX510. I've used both and noticed slightly better accuracy using the Diamondback vs. the MX510. The Diamondback is a little more expensive though, so it all comes down to how much you want to spend.

I'd heard about that lag problem when picking up the MX1000, which is one of the reasons why I've not bought one myself. I do a fair amount of FPS gaming, and my MX700 has worked flawlessly for over a year now.

I'm going to have to give another plug for the Logitech MX510. I use the mouse for FPS gaming, and, for me, it gave a significant inprovemnet over the old Microsoft Intellimouse Optical I had been using for a while. I would favor a corded mouse over wireless when it comes to gaming applications as bad or weak batteries could cost you some frags.

I have both the MX700 and wireless Explorer. I like the latter better, but only because the shape and buttons are more comfortable, for me.

I have an Intellimouse optical (cord) USB mouse and I think it is hands down the best. I prefer it over the MX510. The MX510 is a ok mouse too but seems like my hand is just too big for it or something and I don't care for how the buttons are part of the top shell thing.

I also love the smooth wheel, these have the best wheels

I have the Logitech media play mouse, ok for general use but not fast enough for intense gaming. No wireless mice Ive tried so far cant cut it. I would recommend something like the Logitech MX300, cheap and has the traditional mouse design, very responsive for gaming. Its smaller and dosent have that ergonomic design like all the new Logitechs but it just feels right for gaming. smaller and easier to move around quickly.

Yeah I probably am going to use it for a few more days but i really doubt the lag will improve since it's just part of how the mouse works. Other than the lag, i do like the mouse a lot. My accuracy seems to be better except that when someone flanks me, I get killed because I can't turn fast enough.

I'm kind of leaning towards the MX510 since everyone seems to love it. I really hate to buy ANOTHER corded mouse when my intellimouse explorer 3.0 works fine but maybe i'll give it a try. I'm also tempted to just keep my MX1000 for general websurfing and use the intellimouse explorer for gaming. It would mean not having to deal with the hassle of returning. But that MX510 sounds really good...

Ok I've used the mx1000 for over a week now and just can't get used to the lag on gaming. I thought well maybe i'll keep it for non-gaming use then, but even at general web-surfing its heavier and doesnt respond as well as my intellimouse explorer 3. I'm going to return it and pick up a 510. I guess i'll just have to forego a wireless mouse for now. I don't use my forearms to control the mouse-- i use my finger tips. This also means that I pick up the mouse quite a bit. So i need a light mouse that's ultra responsive with zero lag time on repositioning.

I'll try a mx510 and hopefully that works for me.

I used to have an 800dpi generic optical mouse thingy which I though was ok....but then at christmas I bought myself an MX900......My gaming has definately improved......I have not noticed any problems with lag...I can pick it up and put it down with out any lagging.........when left idle for long periods...it comes back to life in a millisecond...i.e not noticable....The MX900 definately gets my vote...but at over £50 for a mouse it is not cheap!!

As far as the MX1000 goes....I have tried one and don't like it.....works well when on the table but if you are a persistent lifter then you are buggered.....New technology so probably should wait till second generation of laser mouse before commiting...

anyone notice a distinct difference between intellimouse explorer 3 (wired) and MX510? I'm hoping it will give me a slight edge...
