Sounds cool but a bit pricy isn't it.
I stick with serial because I could get it for 5 bucks.

i use a mouse cause it's cool looking. then i get bored and need to change. Guess what, it's time to change, and there isn't anything cooler than the explorer right now.. for a decent price. I wanna try the marble FX+ (or whatever the big trackball w/ thumbs buttons and all), but it's just too much (paid $45 for my explorer).

Any suggestions? Already had the logitech mouseman wheel USB. nicer than explorer I think, just a TAD too small, and wheel one the explorer is a lot nicer.

Help me, I need a new mouse :)

Chuck, the Explorer is bigger, more expensive, and IMO harder to use. It does have more buttons tho. The Optical (not the Intellimouse w/Intellieye one - the actual MS Intellimouse Optical) fits my hand perfectly (like the old Logitech First Mouse) and has 2 side buttons. I find the buttons a little hard to use since it's made for right or left-handed people, but the advantages of the Optical in general far outweigh the disadvanges. I would definately get an optical mouse; you'll end up spending the same amount for multiple cheap mice in the long run.

And yes Gorgonzola, a better mouse = better fragrate, at least when it comes to optical vs. blind mice ;)

bigjon,

I went to a shop today to see how big they were, and stuff.. The Explorer seemed to be a better fit from what I could tell (authough it was difficult because they were still in the box.

The weird thing is that i've never thought my hands to be that big...

chuck, I'm probably just used to the Logitech First Mouse - that mouse was great! I still wouldn't trade my Optical for anything else tho (I even sold my old Logitech Cordless mouse).

lnguyen, got me there ;)

Intellimouse Explorer

I have a wooden desk though, which is not very good for the mouse. I need to get a comfortable mouse pad. This mouse works great if the pattern it is on is uniform and even.

intellimouse ps2

if u got it from a co w/ 3 yr parts warranty, u can go nuts on the mouse and they'll send you a replacement whenever it gets faulty. heck mine gets screwy every couple of months.

Any USB will help because it doesn't draw from the CPU like a PS/2 will.I've used MS Intellamouse Explorer "Optical" excellent choice but my Razor Boomslang 2000 is in a class by itself.Being USB it dosen't suck the life out of the CPU and response time and accuacy is fun_ominal it just plain ROCKS!!!!!

i thought

better skill = better fragrate

also, if u do some 'benchmark' urself
PS2 actually uses a lot less CPU then USB

i got Intellimouse w/ intelleye

using it in USB Mode in win98se uses 17% yes 17% of my cpu time when the mouse is moving, using it in PS2 modem at 100Hz refresh uses 3%

wat do u think?

I use a USB Intellimouse Optical. Love it! Great for Lefties.

Xtreme: Using system monitor, it shows mine using 10-15% when it's just sitting there and if I move the mouse, it drops down to 2-5%. How's that for strange. OS = win98se CPU = P3-933. No matter what I'm doing I always get about 10% less utilization when I'm constantly moving my USB mouse...

Best mouse? First Mouse+ or USB wheelmouse (same mouse but with PS2 and USB interfaces)

ITwanabe: USB uses a LOT more CPU time than PS2 does. try it sometime. turn off all those programs running in the background, turn on system monitor and then start moving the mouse like crazy all over the place. youll see the CPU rate move up a noticable amount. I tried a USB mouse on a P200 and it took almost 50% of the CPU time when I moved it around really fast.
