Hello,
im tryng to build a new workstation wich i will use essentially for graphics, animation and 3d projects. The first oprion was the Intel 2600K and P67 motherboard. But, after following some forums, someone suggested to dont go for the P67(sandy bridge problem) and to buy an I950 an X58 (wich is powerfull then the first option). Frome the other side someels told me that the I2600k - P67 is more powerful then the other and that i will not be affected by the Sandy bridge problem as, for the kind of usage im goin go do, i will not use the Sata II port.
I dont know what to do now and what to buy.
Any suggestion?
Cheers Marsio

What type of graphics work and what type of GPU(s) will you be running?

If you only need a single 16x PCIe slot, dont need more than 16GB of ram, and dont need ECC memory then go for sandy bridge.

I would only go with 1366 if you really need the extra PCIe lanes to run multiple GPU's for your graphics work, Or the extra memory capacity, or ECC memory.

Well I use after effects, photoshop ecc and im starting now with C4d.
The configuration i was thinking was
-CPU I7 2600K
-Motherboard P8P67delux
-Memory 16G
-HD SSD 64
-Graphics Card Zotac Gforce gtx 580

Can you explain me better what means
"I would only go with 1366 if you really need the extra PCIe lanes to run multiple GPU's for your graphics work, Or the extra memory capacity, or ECC memory. "
my hardware knowledge is really bad
cheers marsio

Well if you need ECC, error checking memory, generally used in servers and mission critical workstations where 100% data accuracy is essential then you need 1366 as 1155 does not support it. I do not know how important your graphics work is, if it is mission critical, or if the added costs of ECC would be a benifit to you. Chances are if you dont know what it is you dont need it.

If you need to run multiple GPU's then 1366 has more PCIe lanes to feed them, giving you better performance. If running a single GPU only this is a non issue, unless you are also running a massive RAID array or some type of add on card that also requires a 16x slot.

If you need more than 16GB of ram then 1366 will take up to 24GB, 1155 only will take 16GB. Its up to you to figure out if 16GB is enough for the work you plan to do.

Also worth mentioning, since you didnt list a spindle drive im assuming the work you do will fit in memory and you do not need a scratch disc? if this is correct then the triple channel of 1366 might offer a performance increase for what you do, over the dual channel of 1155.
