I am building a new system shortly. It is going ot be based around an Anthlon XP 1800+. I want to use DDR Ram. I want it to have USB 2.0. I don't want anything built-on the motherboard, but if sound is that is okay.

I have just started lookign, so am not even sure what is really out there.

Thanks,

Chris

I should also say that I am not looking to overclock at all.

And RAID would be nice ot have as well.

How is it that
I don't want anything built-on the motherboard
but then you say sound is ok and then you want RAID????

To me it sounds like built in componets are OK then? The only other thing built into motherboards is LAN and I think it is a waste of a PCI slot to use LAN unless you have a very high performance LAN. If overclocking is not important I would look for a board with onboard sound, RAID, lan and USB 2.0 and then search for the lowest price. Brands really doesn't matter as much if you are running the board within spec, any mobo manufacture should do Gigabyte, Abit, Asus, Epox, etc.

Well that is my take on the situation.

P.S. As far as my recomendation goes, I own a Abit IT7 and love it, you may want to look at its brother the AT7.

What I meant was I didn't want on board video/sound etc. I would be willing to have on board sound, but no video, etc.
