hahah "SiS chipset".

On thursday I just spent 3 hours trying to fix friends comp that had a onboard SiS graphic. I had to guess which driver it uses. Took me about 20 tries before I got the right one.

First he should talk to Fry's (if he hasn't already) and tell them they need to provide either the proper drivers or how to get them.

Next, are there any markings on the MoBo itself that could provide a clue? You might try running SiSoft's Sandra. I know for my system it can detect the MoBo manufacturer as AsusTek and the Model as A7V133. Give it a try.

If you can't get Video up at all, to get into the system, maybe use a cheapo PCI vid card to get it going.

2 PCI slots! Is that a Micro ATX board?

video works, but no more than 16/256 colors...

The closest I could find is the ECS K7SEM. It has 2 pci 1 agp 1 cnr, but it also has 1 amr so I guess it isnt the board your friend has. I can't find that exact match.

Take a look at SIS's website

They have a utility which can identify your chipset as well, in case you're not sure.

Does it look like this?
PC Chips M810LMR
I think your odds are pretty good

Nope. That board has an AMR slot where his board has a CNR slot.

Hrm - how about the BIOS-code?

That should help us get a notion as to what board that is you use :).

Give us those BIOS-code listings :D.

They *should* have a unique BIOS-ID somewhere in the BIOS-string with which we should be able to find out :).
