Question What monitor would be right for me?

What makes the most sense for me?

I saw this 2560 x 1080 monitor on sale for $200 recently and was intrigued at the thought of a huge 34" ultrawide curved, but I'm not sure if it would be better to spend more on a 1440p, if I'd even need or want a curve, or if a 16:9 IPS would look better.

Usage - mostly Internet surfing (Reddit, watching YouTube videos, maybe a movie now and then, etc.) and some light gaming (maybe 20 hours per week - some RTS, a little FPS, and maybe Rocket League, and potentially open world RPGs). I use my computer in a dimly-lit room, so having the deeper black of a VA as opposed to IPS glow might be an issue.

I'd like something that looks fantastic and would prove to be a very significant and noticeable upgrade over my current 24" TN panel which I've been very happy with. IMHO it looks great and seems large enough, but maybe I don't know what I'm missing. I only have a nVidia 1050 (not TI) for a video card, so refresh rate might not be a huge deal.

How big of a deal is ghosting on sub $400 34" and sub $300 32" VA panels? Would I probably be happier with a 32" IPS like this one?

I have a 32" IPS monitor (this one: https://www.costco.ca/lg-32-in.-qhd-ips-freesync-monitor-(2560-×-1440).product.100514955.html) and I think it's great (I paid $269 CAD/$204 USD). It has really nice colour and clarity. The 1050 may have trouble with the resolution depending on the game you're playing though. I initially used it with a 1070, then a 5700XT, and now a 3070. I also have it mounted on an articulating arm and don't use the stand, so can't comment on that.

I have this one in the mail however: https://www.gigabyte.com/ca/Monitor/G34WQC#kf

I haven't decided if I'm keeping it or not. I don't know if I'll like the shrunken vertical of the ultrawide (2" shorter than the one I have now). About the only thing it improves on is the refresh rate, and it's curved, but I don't know that that's worth it. I'll probably just send it back without opening it. If I do open it however, I'll let you know how it compares to the IPS.

Whelpers, I did buy that 34" ultrawide monitor for $200 and it came with a free Rachel Ray insulated grocery store bag. It looks great and I love if even though it's resolution is equivalent to a 27" 1080p monitor.
