What monitor setup should I choose?

Added a poll to this thread, since I have still been looking and there are other 1800FP's available. Heres my thinking. I can probablly get another 1800FP for around 325.00-350.00 shipped. One problem I see with this is if it is a new monitor it may make my year old monitor look bad. Not sure how well these things age. Or with a 25% off coupon I could get 2 brand new 1704FP's for about 522.00 and then sell my 1800FP for a profit in the range of 250.00 making the total for the 1704's 522-250=272, so they would also be 50-75.00 bucks cheaper. Granted this is less screen real estate. But the 1704's would both be brand new, offer the option for portrait mode viewing, and I think they have integrated USB ports, although this isn't a big deal.

Anythign I am not considering, what would you do? I don't really do anything that requires dual monitors, they would mainly be used for multitasking, and the ability to run 1 VMware OS and my actual OS both on thier own screen. The 1800's would be tight on my desk, but they should fit easy enough.

I treated myself to a 191t+ after years of using handmedown CRTs, and now I've got that and an old Gateway 17-incher. Frankly, I don't know how I lived without dual monitors. Usually I've just got IRC, Azureus and F@H on the second monitor - it's nice to be able to see at a glance how files are coming along or what progress you've been making on your proteins, and having an always visible Chatzilla window is very convenient.

The best thing, though, is the dual-monitor Photoshopping/GIMPing. It's so wonderful having all the tools and information windows clustered on the edge of the second monitor with the entire 19 inches of the Samsung dedicated to the work in progress.

Very worth it.

I have 2 lcds that I have been using for a few years now.
I have a Samsung 191T as my primary display and I play games on it pretty well. The response time doesnt bother me.
For my 2nd display I have a widescreen 17" samsung 172W.
both run off the dual DVI of my leadtek GF6800 ultra.
I watch DVDs and HDTV rips on my second monitor mainly, when not viewing movies, I keep my chat windows, and winamp on the 2nd display.

For my PC system, I have a pair of 18" Sony LCDs. I launch two videos, Private Gold video on the left LCD, Red Light District video on the right LCD...

Forgive my ignorance, but are those what i think they are? If so then LOL.

I actually have to check and make sure I have enough room for 2 18.1 inch displays. I was originally thinking of getting the 1704FP, cause I liked the idea of being able to use portrait view. But as I said, even if I could sell mine for 300.00, it would cost me likely around 800 or 500 minus the 300 I get from my monitor. Where as I can buy this other 1800FP for 300.00, so it seems like the better option.

I've got a 21" trinitorn tube CRT for gaming and a 19" LCD for Text and various other stuff it replaced a 19" CRT that I sold my friend.

I have an old 17 inch CRT going unused. I have an old 17 inch CRT that I am looking at now. Should I hook them both up? I have a ATI AIW 9600, so I think I have dual monitor compabitality. I photoshop and could use the room.

Is it hard to configure?

How do you tell which program goes to what monitor?

Thanks

work on one, and pr0n on the other.... of course! there's not other reason to actually require two monitors, anyone that says otherwise is obviously ashamed to admit the truth.

Heck yeah, now that would make it weel worth the cost, LOL.

Dang I am having crazy trouble finding an AGP dual DVI video card. I was hoping for a 6600GT, the only one available is an XFX card, and I hear thier tech support blows. Any other ideas. I do light gaming, mainly RTS's and some RPG's not too many FPS's. I am currently using an 8500DV so as long as its speedier then that let me know about it.

Yes, they are precisely what you think they are. If space permits I would have bought a pair of 52" Plasma...

All silliness aside. I use the dual monitor mainly for photoshop and CAD apps. And if the graph gets too big, I just move over to the Mac w/ the 20" Cinema. Oh yes, 3... wait, make that 4 LCDs. Also have a 19" Dell/Samsung.

LOL, coolred, I was thinking the same thing...

Now that this has been mentioned, I realize that dual monitors would be dank as hell. I could run mIRC, the web, AIM, etc. on the second monitor while doing whatever on the first (games, etc.). Too bad that I'm still in high school and can barely afford the fly rig I just go ordered.

Deal on the 1800Fp fell through, so should I just stick with my 1800FP, try to find another used one to go with it, or opt for a couple dual 17"'s?

Also I was checking ebay. I found some 1800FP's there. here is one, but the picture doesn't look like mine. IS this a newer version or an incorrect picture?

How do you like that bad boys? How much did you pay for them? Is 261.00 each a good deal or should I wait for better?

Well i dunno if the 1704 is different, but my cable plug in the back of the monitor (right below the stand connection on the back)

I have used them in portrait once or twice, but i always go back to landscape because it feels more normal to me 😀

Fergot to mention, there is a nice little loop on the back of the stands to route the cables through. You barely see them from the front if at all.

Yeah I notice din your pic you couldn't see them. So they actually plug into the monitor not like the base or anything? I wa sjust wodnering since if they plug into the monitor it woudl be more of a pain to turn them to portrait mode. But its probablly not that important since I don't know how well i would liek protrait mode either. I would think it would be great fro long webpages, but who knows I may not be able to get used to it either.

Sceptre 19" monitor is what i got after considering two 17 inchers. I found out that you can game on two monitors so i bugged out on that. That sceptre is 12ms, true 8-bit panel, and 2h glare coating. Never seen any ghosting, colors are amazing (btw i looked for 3 weeks for an 19" lcd with 12ms and true 8-bit, this was the ONLY one I could find). The 2h glare coating gives the picture a so much sharper look. I strongly recommend this monitor.

Duh I forgot about tax and shipping, the total cost for 2x 1704FP's would be 591.94 making my total cost after I sell my monitor 341.94. That puts in more even if not more expensive then the 1800FP.

Anybody seent he 1704 compared to the 1800FP? The 1704 has a much higher contrast ratio, higher brightness and a smaller dot pitch so will it looks a lot better? Since I frogot about tax and shipping and those things causing both options to cost about the same, I am wondering if the 17's are worth it? If they look better and since they have better features, then I guess they may be.
